We have just arrived home after a meal here. We are on our honeymoon and had pinpointed this place as a fancy romantic night out after a friend recommended it having gone a long time ago himself.

BUT

the food was average the food was dated the food was overpriced

We had the guinea fowl terrine, the fennel pie, the pici with bacon and broccoli, the mushroom gnocchi, the suckling pig and the lamb (so a lot). The gnocchi was excellent but everything else was tasteless and could've been made by most home cooks. A real shame and a waste of money. AVOID.

The only reason I gave it 2 stars rather than 1 was because the waiter was excellent.

RESPONSE TO OWNER'S RESPONSE:

It is a shame the owner tries to make a mockery of my review rather than apologise and take the criticism in a constructive manner. Addressing each of his points in turn:

The most likely reason you didn't have my booking was that when first booking the restaurant I made a mistake on the date - I however corrected this the day before arriving. I did not go to the wrong restaurant, I can guarantee you that as I have since checked, although in many ways I wish I had.

The ingredients may have been fresh but the meal was still tasteless. For example the green beans (like French beans but not exactly the same) were boiled to a mush.

Yes your prices are exposed on the menu/website but you did not live up to those prices - that is the point!

I apologise that we didn't speak to you when there but it was a long dinner, we were fed up and wanted to get home. My mistake. On the other hand at no point did any of your staff ask if the food was OK so I didn't have an obvious chance to complain.

Do not confuse empty plates with enjoyment - it was not disgusting just tasteless, we were hungry, so we ate it.

Just so you know - some of your other diners that night thought it was a very disappointing experience, they were staying at our hotel and spoke with me the following morning. So maybe the criticism is fair?

I hope it was just an off day - as your other reviews suggest it may have been - good luck...

We arrived at Relais la Leopoldina as guests and depart as family !! We had the pleasure of staying at the relais for 13 nights and it wasn’t enough. Our room had an amazing view ! It had all the amenities required to keep my wife happy for the entire stay. Angela the Chef’s wife was a gracious and welcoming host. The morning breakfasts were a very pleasant surpise but then again Walter wouldn’t let anything pass out the kitchen door that wasn’t great. I love a good omelette and unfortunately very few places do it correctly, when I was served my first Omelette at breakfast I was in heaven !! The entire staff were very helpful and friendly especially Carmen.

During our stay we had several romantic dinners by ourselves and hosted two small parties for our local friends. We preferred to dine outdoors and the weather did cooperate. Our guest were extremely happy on the patio with the great food and friendly service. rather than review every dish individually with you , I’ll give you a brief description of the cuisine. Walter uses seasonal product sourced in the local area many producers within a 10 minute radius. The menu is constantly changing according to product availability. He then prepares them perfectly being a master chef in the area for decades !! Most of the restaurant customers are locals and therefore it doesn’t close for the season like many in the area. Dress is smart casual. My only recommendation is don’t pass on the Steak it’s a life changing...

Walter’s place was, and is by far one of my ultimate favorite restaurants that I’ve ever been to out of all of my travels. My husband and I had the pleasure of not only staying at his beautiful in, but enjoying various meals at his restaurant. I felt awful when our Airbnb review timeline expired before I could leave a review, so I decided to leave one here. For our honeymoon my husband and I traveled from New York and spent over three weeks traveling throughout Italy. Walter’s boutique hotel and restaurant share a special place in our heart and we plan to return as soon as we can. The views are absolutely breathtaking and our tower room was straight out of a fairytale. The restaurant patio is as such a lovely dining atmosphere and their staff treated us like family. Each morning we were greeted with a smile, and our favorite coffee beverage was already ready for us at our table before we could even arrive. Each day our server would ask us if we had plans for the day and gave us such wonderful suggestions on and the best way to arrange our plans based on her experience and and we found her to be extremely helpful. And for Walter’s restaurant, my mouth still waters thinking about the amazing food we ate. And if you’re like me and have numerous serious, allergies, fear not! I was able to eat almost anything on the menu, so much so that we opted for the 7 course meal because this rarely ever happens. Huge thanks to Walter and his lovely team. We will...

La cucina dello Chef Walter Raedelli oltrepassa semplicistico concetto di talento puro. Scegliere la sua cucina vuol dire andare alla RIscoperta di una tradizione di ingredienti di qualità superiore, tutti italiani. Emozioni dell’anima sono state avvalorate dai sorrisi e dalla gentilezza infinita di tutto il personale di sala. Il servizio è connotato dall'alto livello dell'equipe tutta, persone meravigliose e dall'elevatissima professionalità. I piatti del menù sono caratterizzati da un bouquet e persistenza al palato di altissima qualità che si traduce in Altissima Cucina Italiana. Walter Raedelli è, a mio umile avviso, uno dei migliori chef del panorama italiano e probabilmente europeo Ho iniziato la cena con una degustazione di olii extravergini di oliva. Eseguiti 5 stripping non mi sono meravigliato del fatto che, in una selezione di livello master, l'olio miglior sia risultato essere quello prodotto dallo Chef Walter. Un equilibrio tra intensità e delicatezza unico, permette il suo abbinamento con tutte le pietanze che ho degustato. Proseguo il cammino enogastronomico con una degustazione di 5 tra i migliori formaggi che abbia mai mangiato negli ultimi 10 anni. Le qualità eccelsa del latte, ovino, caprino e di vacca, rendono i formaggi dal sapore corposo e profondo esaltando il delizioso sapore del latte e degli aromi uniti a supporto. Questo utilizzo di materie prime incredibili è l'elemento portante della filosofia dello Chef Walter. E un flusso continuo di sapori ed emozioni che iniziano dalla consistenza degli elementi utilizzati per poi sfociare nella perfezione dell'evoluzione al primo boccone. Gli gnocchi di funghi porcini con tartufo e crema di formaggio e, a seguire, il mosaico di Faraona, sono un simposio di sapori che emozionano l'anima. Due sono gli elementi predominanti: l'altissima tecnica di preparazione e le materie prime di eccelsa qualità. La tecnica è un'ampia e più che sapiente dimostrazione di conoscenza e di cosa significhi il verbo “cucinare” per uno chef. Questo standard qualitativo permette al cliente di godere appieno dei sapori. Gli elementi secondari non vengono mai posti a coprire l'elemento principale del piatto ma lo accompagnano, sempre, in modo da permettere al palato di distinguerne tutte le caratteristiche. Gli ingredienti si rivelano decisivi nell'esaltare i sapori che, in bocca, appaiono netti, corposi, perfettamente legati tra loro ed allo stesso tempo delicati e persistenti al fin di bocca, meglio ancora se accompagnati da uno dei vini dell'impressionante cantina della quale dispone lo Chef Walter Raedelli. Ricchezza, sapiditá, dolcezza, croccantezza e delicatezza, sono il feel rouge di qualsiasi piatto si posi sulla tavola. Walter Raedelli riesce a rendere "semplice" quello che per i più non lo è e mai lo sarà. La sua affabilità, gentileza, cortesia e dolcezza, rendono un'esperienza enogastronomica...L'ESPERIENZA. From the moment we arrived at Walter’s restaurant, we felt like welcomed guests rather than just customers — Walter and his team bring an incredible warmth and care to everything they do. The setting is rustic and relaxed in the best possible way — peaceful, authentic, and surrounded by the charm of the Tuscan countryside. The food was exactly what we were hoping for: local, honest, and absolutely delicious. Every dish felt like it had a story behind it, crafted with intention and pride. There’s no pretension here — just great food, genuine hospitality, and a deep sense of place. It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you slow down, savor, and smile. A heartfelt thank you to Walter and the whole team for making us feel so welcome. We can’t wait to return.
