Casa Algida Venezia — Restaurant in Venice

Quaint little eatery at the far end of the pier. The customers are mostly blue collar seaman and dock workers. The woman/owner holds court as she handles the nonstop flow of workers in search of coffee and croissants. As an American, I find even the large cup to be small. Of course, I would have rather had a breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese and meat but I was ok with the croissant. But I wish I hadn't chosen the one with powdered sugar. Croissants are already messy with confetti of flakes but the sugar is like glitter. You're never fully rid of it. Being that this joint is a bit remote, you have to be good. It only has a 3.8 rating (which should be higher) but the only alternative way out here is a place with only a 1.8 rating 😱. So we walked the extra steps. Una volta tappa fissa per chi sta al Lido e torna in isola dopo viaggi/etti comunque pesanti, ora ci rifletti un attimo prima di fermarti. Nulla da dire sulla qualità di cibo e bevande ma il servizio è estremamente altalenante: se trovi qualche cameriera sopra i trent'anni magari ti cucchi la musica a canna, le sedie d'estate piene di schitti, l'andirivieni invadente del personale ACTV di cui sto' bar è diventato un dopolavoro (ma non hanno una super-sede 10 metri prima?) , ma ricevi anche un sorriso e le patatine con l'aperitivo (in sto' posto ora rincarato troppo per la caratteristica del locale e la permanenza...ma è estate e la strategia è che la gente va munta). Sotto i 30 anni si va un po' a simpatie, anche sulla quantita' delle porzioni. ACTV amiconi; altri ancora amiconi; ma se gira male...e mi fermo qui', servizio scostante. Meglio appena aperto, ma meglio ancora il vecchio, umano "baretto" che infatti faceva più clienti...

After visiting the café next door with unfriendly waiters, we came to this one. And we were absolutely delighted by their prices, The quality of food and service - very friendly people are working here. The coffee is delicious, sandwiches are scrumptious. I highly recommend this place to anyone...
