We had a horrible experience here. Yes, this is a real castle and there is so much potential for it to be a great place to stay, but the management is incompetent and have just done a poor job. First of all, we had a long travel day and by the time we got to the castle, they told us they didn't have my reservation on file until the following day. I clearly had emails to show that they were mistaken, but they had no rooms available. They found us a different place to stay for that night, but they were incredibly rude and acted like it was somehow my fault that they made a huge mistake. ||||When we returned, they were extremely rude to us for the rest of our stay. It made us never want to return to the area.||||The actual rooms are beautiful, but the beds are absolutely awful. We didn't get any sleep during our whole stay. ||||The restaurant is awful. The food is some of the worst food I've had. I've traveled all over Italy, including other parts of Piedmont, and this food is absolutely not representative of the local cuisine. Piedmont has such incredible food--do not waste a meal here. ||||The internet never worked, so we weren't able to communicate with family back home. ||||Finally, there is nothing in the town of Verduno, save for a couple of restaurants. If you want to walk around to shops and little wine bars and restaurants, do not stay in this town. Stay in Barolo or another town with...

Read moreThe Real Castello is another Italian agriturismo gem, a concept many other countries could learn from. The Real Castello is steeped in history and it oozes from every corner. The rooms are enormous and if not on the ground floor, have wonderful views across the Piemonte countryside. Antique furniture, comfortable beds with good quality bedlinens. Perhaps a little shabby on the paintwork and the bathrooms may be squeezed into improbable corners... again, this is part of the charm. The staff were friendly and wanted to help. Prior to our stay they made reservations at restaurants and wineries for us. The huge volumes - the ceilings must be 5m high - did give some echoing down the corridors, however when noisy children disturbed our pre-dinner drinks, they tried to find a quieter spot. The aperol spritz was excellent. All the members of our party agreed that we very much enjoyed the stay and...
