I was in the group with my friend who's review the owner attempted to discredit- calling her a liar who wasn't even at the restaurant and "insane"
Everything she said was fair and accurate. They tried to charge $40US as the blanket price for 2 entirely different wines, one better one and one which is one of the very cheapest you can buy in the supermarket- Frontera - which is around 1000-1200 jmd (under 8usd)
I have no problem with restaurants significantly marking up wine prices but it felt like it was made upon the spot to take advantage of a group of foreigners. I live in Jamaica with my husband (who is Jamaican) so we know what is what, and do not like this kind of styling
As soon as we disputed the bill they dropped the prices on the spot, then once we insisted on the itemized bill back in Jamaican dollars (as on the menu) the bill was almost halved
At time of payment they said the curry goat was a significantly higher price than listed on the menu as it was “a different cut of goat” which was not mentioned when the order was made.
The response to my friends review was unprofessional to say the least and did not address a single issue raised. I see this is the theme with the management’s other responses to unfavorable reviews
Sorry to leave a bad review but I really don’t like to see this kind of trickery which can give this beautiful island and it’s people a...
Read moreFood mediocre, worst meal we have had out in Jamaica and small. I wouldn't recommend visiting but if you do make sure you confirm the prices of drinks and food before you order. The bill arrived in USD when the menu was in Jamaican dollars.... quite a few of the prices were different and didn't correlate to the menu prices. They clearly are trying to pull a fast one on visitors not familiar on the conversion rates. Drink prices aren't listed anywhere but are extortionate, 700 Jamaica dollars just for a shot of rum ($5USD) which is significantly more than even the pricey beach bars. They tired to charge $40 USD for a bottle which is $15 in the shops... tried to add an extra 50% on goat curry on the bill apparently as the meat price was higher at the time without letting us know when we ordered. Avoid this place, if you are in the locallity the next door Canoe has much better food and won't...
