Mochitoko — Restaurant in Aso

Mochitoko is great value with gorgeous views of Aso's central mountains and smoking volcano. It offers a very tasty vegetable lunch set at 600 Yen. (I only gave it 4 stars because I wish it had been truly vegetarian - they use fish stock in some dishes.) You can add a main of either fried chicken, hamburger or wild boar for an extra 300 Yen. I skipped that and added a drink and mochi dessert for 400 Yen. The fried mochi was crispy, and light and went so well with its ice-cream topping! The service was friendly and fast and the interior feels like a place where you can just relax, take in the views and let time go by. There's also an in-store shop with handcrafts, pottery...

Located in the countryside which gives a relaxing vibe. Prior to the dining area, you have to take out your shoes and slip onto their slippers.

Cafe offers a nice mountain view. As soon as we are seated, the lady offer blankets and warm tea which were very thoughtful.

Ordered the following items: Pork cutlet curry rice: 1200yen Vegetable set rice (comes with an option one meat which we choose karaage): 900 yen Fried rice cake: 500 yen Sticky Toffee Pudding: 500 yen

The price of the food is very reasonable. They also sell souvenirs, vegetables and clothing...

Excellent farmhouse lunch spot with a simple menu and lovely ambience. Perfect place for a simple set menu and desserts. We had the regular set lunch with no added protein, moffles (mochi waffles) with sweet bean powder (kinako), and red bean soup (sweet and salty) with a generous helping mochi (lovely wintery dessert).
