I went to this place three times during my week long Okinawa trip. Why? Because they were the only restaurant I could find that served healthy, home-style, and delectable vegan and vegetarian food.
The chef Mr. Dharam Singh and his co-chef prepare fresh food everyday. The food is prepared in a manner similar to Indian homes i.e. with less oil, cream and without artificial colors. The meal doesn't give you a stuffy feeling at the end like with other restaurants in the area, but rather makes you feel really warm and satisfied. I'm Indian and I have been living outside India since 2016 (USA, Taiwan etc), and I haven't found such good home style Indian food in many places. This is a hidden gem!
Thanks to the chefs for their wonderful service. I highly recommend trying chef's aloo Gobi (potato cauliflower) and bhindi (okra) dishes. They go really well with their butter naans which are always soft and flaky. I'll...
Read moreI actually got my order to go, and waited inside for about 15 minutes. Very authentic Indian vibe with comfortable seating and large tables- good for large groups although parking is a little tight so best to probably carpool. The food was portioned well and wrapped in specific sized containers. I ordered the chicken curry dinner set. Absolutely delicious! The naan is a huge pieces of naan, too. Plenty of curry with chicken pieces PLUS a bonus piece of chicken separately wrapped. I was very impressed with how well the curry and chicken were seasoned and how hot and satisfying it all was when I got home. I highly recommend for eating there or to go. There are a couple tables towards the back that have a beautiful view of the ocean and sunset. I went around 1815 on a Sunday and there was only one other couple there. Great date night for sure. Lovely business, amazing food, and very...
Read moreIndira is in and the food was indescribably delicious. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was one of cheerful relaxation as we dined gazing on traditional Indian art but listening to the joyful sounds of Reggae; untraditional for an Indian restaurant, but uniquely Indira. But Indira is not a traditional Indian restaurant as it also sampled from the Okinawan cuisine as it proudly boasts a flavorful Goya curry. Also unique was the chocolate naan served with the children's set.
The restaurant was clean, the staff was helpful and there is plenty of parking. It is now my new favorite Indian restaurant in Okinawa!
Indulge yourself and eat...
