My husband and I arrived immediately after the restaurant opened. Even so, we received our delicious food very quickly. A young man took care of us before the owner / host arrived and we were very pleased with his service. The place itself was lovely and suited for people with all eating and drinking needs. For example, there was vegetarian and halal food. Nice. The owner was extremely personable and knowledgeable. He gave us lessons about the various lunchboxes / o-bento boxes from various countries. Some appear in the photos. A few looked like tea pots. Overall, he made the atmosphere even more festive. His 39 year journey in Japan made me and my husband well aware of what was possible if one has grit and determination. Unfortunately, we started eating the food before we took pictures, but I managed photos of my butter curry and nan. My husband had the basic chicken curry and rice. It was fantastic, too. Oh, and some Frank Sinatra music played in the background. They used real records. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone passing through Chitose. We will make it a point visit Thee Tiffin again. Oh, I nearly forgot, the owner gifted me with...
Read moreI went to this restaurant after a late check-in at yuyukan hostel right next to it. I was served by Mr Sammy who is the proprietor of the restaurant. He is a kind gentleman, has a collection of retro audio equipment, and the restaurant itself has an originality to it. I ordered mutton potatoes curry and it had a great combination of spices and hotness. The mutton was quite tender. The dish and sticky rice, in a colorful tiffin, is served complementarily with cucumber salad and 3 giant naan slices. I think the price was very reasonable too. They packed me the leftover naan piece that I couldn’t finish and it was my only breakfast on train the next day. I’m really grateful for it. Also Mr Sammy has one of those retro rotary dial phone! How...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of dining at this incredible Indian restaurant during our 3-day stay in Chitose, Hokkaido, and it quickly became our go-to spot for every meal. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish reminded us of authentic Indian home cooking, prepared with care and full of flavor.
What truly stood out was the hospitality. The owner and staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and satisfied. They were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind, always happy to accommodate our requests. It felt more like being hosted by family than eating at a restaurant.
