My dining adventure at Tempura Hirao was nothing short of spectacular!
Firstly, the unique ticket-purchasing system added an air of exclusivity. The menu, brilliantly translated into English, presented a delightful array of set meals, each intriguingly labeled from A to D.We indulged in the fish set and the prawn set, and oh, what a culinary triumph it was! Each bite of the expertly fried fare was a revelation – crispy yet astonishingly devoid of excess oil. The fish's flesh was tender beyond imagination, melting effortlessly in the mouth. The tempura cuttlefish was a new experience for me, and it was an absolute delight. At the heart of this gastronomic temple was the chef, a maestro orchestrating a symphony of flavors.
The waitresses were the epitome of attentive service, seamlessly presenting each dish as soon as it reached its pinnacle of perfection.I am eagerly counting down the moments until I can return to Tempura Hirao to relive this extraordinary epicurean experience before my...
Read moreA "fast food" style tempura shop that was surprisingly extremely nice ! when you enter the shop, you purchase a ticket for the food option you want - cash only, i think. After getting your tickets, you can go into the restaurant and starting queueing if its busy (they have a bench along the long side of the wall across the whole restaurant for you to sit and queue). Water and tea is self serve. Their pickled white raddish were also very nice. I got the vegetable tempura set, and it was just amazing! the vergetables were sweet and tender paired with the salt or sauce. Considering the price, the whole meal was just a steal, and I would definitely go back.
I tried the tempura pork and chicken as well, and both were nice they were moist and tender.
We went in the evening and queued for roughly... 15 minutes? it didnt feel too long as we got to sit and wait and was moving along the bench...

By chance several years ago we found a Tempura Hirao branch store. We didn’t know what to expect given you buy your meal ticket from a machine and put it down on the counter. The server makes note of your order and the tempura chef starts frying your food. She/he makes all the same vegetable then serves each person who ordered that item. Then the next item, etc. So everything is hot and crispy! Of course the best was the Ebi Tempura, shrimp. Btw you can order additional food, eg more shrimp. There are several shoos all around Fukuoka, not...
