Fantastic bakery.
(It can be off-putting for Europeans to see baked goods packaged in transparent plastics - as they're almost invariably packaged in Japan. We associate this kind of packaging with UPFs, preservatives etc., and we also know how bad plastics are for the long term health of the world and humanity... so we prefer buying bread in paper bags. But in spite of the packaging, this is very high quality baking - the best in the region.)
We'll be back (albeit hoping for less plastic).
(Also, I love how enthusiastic the bakery owner is about the Fukiage region of the mountains - when we return to Hokkaido, we'll probably go there...
Read moreIt was 1600 (dark and snowing) and my kids found it was still open.
When I opened the door the freshly baked apple pies was amazing. We bought bit and pieces of bread and pastries as well as the freshly baked apricot glazed apple pie for dessert. The apple was sweet and pastries were very buttery.
The baker and his wife were very friendly and jovial despite limited English.
