Yamayu Ushi Ikkan — Restaurant in Hida

Yamayu was recommended by the staff operating our holiday home in Hida-Furukawa. It was the best meal. The set menu was absolutely delicious and the lady serving us was extremely attentive. No detail was too small and she seemed genuinely happy to have us at the restaurant. We were a larger group of 7 people but everything was served promptly. My 9 year old son especially loved cooking his Hida-Wagyu on the lava stone which made entertaining him easy. Any language barriers were easily overcome and we also received a very interesting presentation regarding where the meat came from and the number of days the beef was aged. It was all topped off with the lady seeing us out the front door at the end of the night and bowing to us as we drove out of the car park. Our concierge in Nagoya recommended this place when we booked a car to come sightseeing in Hida. Restaurant opened in just recently in April 2016. The owner was so kind and greeted us personally and explained each cut of beef along with his staff.

We got the five cut lava plate and a sirloin and fillet combo.

I'm kind of lazy writing reviews but the fact that I'm spending a few minutes typing this up shows how good this place is. If you want to taste the best cuts of Japanese beef, this is a must visit. Everything from the ambience, service, quality of good was excellent.

Pricewise, it was also great value as four of us just ate for a total of 27k Japanese yen, (two draft beers included). Very very reasonable.

One of the BEST experiencies in my trip to Japan, and definitely the best beef I've ever eaten. The woman who served us was very nice, even though she didn't speak English, she did her best to understand us and explain everything. We ordered the Hida Beef dinner set and added more pieces of meat because it was incredible, it melted in your mouth. It's worth coming here, even from other areas.
