I had started the second half of the Shiminami Kaido towards Imabara that morning not realizing that there were not many places on that part of the route where I could stop for food. After a couple hours of no options, UTE sandwich shop appeared. All of the sandwiches looked so delicious that I needed help deciding. The owner told me what her favorite was and I took her suggestion..It was the lotus root and fried fish. ( They are actually sandwich half's but packed full with ingredients) I ate it under one of the umbrella shaded picnic benches overlooking the bay. It was fresh and delicious. Additionally, the owner( sorry I didn't get her name), noticed that I was quite hot from the steep limb a couple miles previous and she offered me an ice cold towel. Read moreWe went out of our way during our trip, to go to the restaurant next to it. Due to the long queue to get in, we opted for this little shop right next to it.
Safe to say, we were very pleasantly surprised. The sandwiches are delicious, well packed and offer plenty of options. While their drink menu looks limited, don't be fooled. The options are absolutely delicious and worth it.
