ocean good table 石垣 — Restaurant in Ishigaki

Thanks to all the bad reviews. They were either way off base or the restaurant listened and made all the changes. This was the last restaurant of our trip and the best service, food and atmosphere.

We saw the sign for BBQ on the way to our hotel. We asked our hotel to make a reservation for us for another restaurant and this one as a back up. We don’t know what set our hotel reserved for us but when we arrived we were seated and food started to arrive.

Our only challenge was figuring out where to park, there was a sign but we were still hesitant to drive past the wall, as there weren’t any cars, another reason to thank the bad reviews. Then we didn’t know where to go. We walked to the beach and saw the teepees. Then wandered through an arch, and a beautifully lit lawn back to the restaurant patio, where we were greeted and seated.

We sat on the patio at a large upscale wooden picnic table, covered with an upscale vinyl tablecloth. Not an ugly white plastic table or trash can in sight. There was a beautiful cloth draped pergola overhead strung with lights that matched the lights that streamed throughout the lawn. It was just beautiful, cozy and intimate with soft music playing.

Not knowing if this would be the end of our good experience, we persisted. And then there was the food. Oh my! It was divine. The server was ever present, from a distance, without being intrusive. Apparently he saw me looking for something and then suddenly more wet wipes, the thing I was looking for, appeared. He must be a mind reader.

It was only after our hotel had made the reservation that we looked for directions and saw the reviews. Based on that we were expecting a disaster. We decided it would be an adventure, at the very least we had fun reading the reviews. We are so happy our original expectations were not met and that this was an amazing, unsurpassed experience. Beautiful restaurant, stunning views in a more remote, resort part of the island. The view alone makes it worthwhile. Relaxing to sit and eat while grilling your own food, with attentive service and a clean, minimalist tropical vibe. Easy to get to by taxi, and hotel will call a taxi for you once you leave. Recommend making a reservation as there were only four tables available.

We were looking for restaurants near our hotel and found this place. The restaurant was quiet with only one table occupied. The atmosphere was pleasant. We ordered a set menu for three people.
