Tappan — Restaurant in Ito

Delicious and entertaining meal at this hole in the wall restaurant. We ended up being the only two people there and were able to converse with a funny and welcoming chef using a mix of single English and Japanese words.

The chef uses fresh locally caught fish for the sushi and sashimi. The multi-course tasting menu is in the chef’s head and there’s no alternative.

We were unable to reserve a table using the AutoReserve (¥) website but were helped out by the owners of Joynt microbrewery...

All I can say is wow!

This place offers a stunning omakase experience, challenging you with (at least to a western palate) exotic ingredients and mastergully crafted flavour combinations

This is all a one-man operation by Tappan (the owner)- he’s as charming as he’s highly knowledgeable, and as charming as he’s good in the kitchen, making the experience in equal parts tasty, educational and entertaining

Wow wow wow!! What a great place to eat. We’ve had a similar style meal outside of New York City and this blows it away. The chef is super friendly. He is as entertaining as everyone describes him and he’s very passionate about everything he touches. He shared pictures of his family and is quite charming.
