Sushi Katsu — Restaurant in Itoigawa

We were on the search for good sashimi on a day trip from Hakuba and Sushi Katsu did not disappoint. We rocked in just after opening time at 5 and the sushi masters welcomed us into the kitchen to show us how he massaged the octopus. After seeing this we knew it was the spot to eat. I opted for the 2600yen course which was 9 pieces and 1 long roll which was more than enough. The English spoken is minimal but they do there best to accommodate to us westerners. They run you one piece at a time, explaining which fish is each with a range from fish liver to fish sashimi to octopus sashimi . A hidden gem in Itoigawa!

We’re so happy we stumbled upon Sushi Katsu — what an amazing place! The restaurant is beautiful and peaceful, with an extremely welcoming staff and top-notch service.

We were seated at the sushi bar, where the chef personally served our course, engaging us in conversation about the different types of fish and seafood we had the chance to try. The freshness and taste were outstanding!

Had takeaway sushi from here one night so I tot of visiting the shop and eat directly off the counter. They have some interesting stuffs on offer during winter - ankimo since anko is in season, ebi miso (didn’t try) and hon-zuwai (didn’t try). They have a range of sushi set menus catering to all budgets and starts at 1100 yen.
