Yoshidaya — Restaurant in Izumo

Five years ago, in the midst of the pandemic, I came to Izumo just to see the deserted Izumo Taisha Shrine. At that time, I enjoyed delicious fish, sake, and conversations with the locals at this Izakaya. Returning here now, I was reminded once again of what a great place it is. Both the counter and tables were fully booked—glad I made a reservation.

For my solo meal, I ordered a small sashimi platter featuring seared Spanish mackerel, amberjack, red amberjack, and akamizu (rosy seabass). The last two are not something you’ll come across in Tokyo. I also had one of the local specialties, sake-steamed shijimi clams. Then, seeing the pair next to me order it, I couldn’t resist trying the stir-fried squid and lettuce with Genovese sauce—it looked too good to pass up.

味については、星4～5を付けても良いくらいの美味しさでした。強いて言うなら、他の客が多い時間帯は、料理の出が遅くなりがちなので、早めに頼んでおくのも一つの手ですね。

残念だったのは、店主っぽい人が、大学生か初任者風の2人組若者に対して色々うんちくを語っていたのが、喧し過ぎて台無しだったと言うところです。
