One word - wow! We were absolutely blown away by the flavor and texture from the different ways that the crab was prepared.
My partner and I went for the 22,000 yen (tax incl.) per person Crab kaiseki meal which featured the snow crab.
Joyo is a 20-30 minute train ride from Kyoto station and Kaniman is a 3 minute walk from Joyo station. Upon arrival we were pleasantly greeted and invited into a private dining space.
And then the crab dishes started to come one by one. Just when we thought it was over, the very friendly lady who was serving us would bring yet another crab cooked in a delicious and unique way. My favorite was the crab miso and my partner loved the crab tempura. The uji matcha ice cream at the end was also excellent.

The private room is huge and very toddler friendly! There's also a cute crab doll, my daughter keeps saying it's her favorite 😂
It's a little way from downtown, but it's a restaurant well worth visiting.
On the way back, I realized that the restaurant is very close to the JR station (I took a taxi to the restaurant and it cost me 7100 yen, but only 500 yen/person by JR on the way back 😂).

We ordered their most expensive set meal when we booked, completely underestimating our stomach capacity... Between the two of us, I think we are at least three full crabs (estimated around two crab legs per course) + miscellaneous vegetables. I strongly recommend to arrive to the place in starving mode.
