⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ **A hidden gem near Kyoto’s Imperial Palace—kaiseki with soul** Our dinner at *En* was unforgettable. My partner and I chose the full seasonal menu and were the only guests that evening, making the experience feel like a private performance of culinary devotion. The master works entirely alone, preparing and serving each course with quiet precision and deep care. Every dish reflected Kyoto’s seasonal beauty—delicate sashimi, clear broth with shrimp and daikon, radish-wrapped sushi, grilled fish, seared beef, and a final sweet of red bean ohagi. The flavors were balanced and thoughtful, the presentation minimalist and elegant. But what truly set *En* apart was the atmosphere: serene, intimate, and deeply personal. From the glistening stone path at the entrance to the final sip of tea, we felt welcomed, honored, and nourished. We’re already planning to return.

Great local keiseki restaurant. Takao was a gracious host. Food was authentic and delicious. Loved the small setup as it was effectively private dining without the price tag. Takao also catered for allergies. Highly recommend this off the beaten track dining experience.

Best meal in Japan so far, great experience from the variety of dishes to the friendliness of the chef. He spoke a little English to, he used Siri to help translate phrases and it was cute and awesome. Would recommend!!

My friend and I were staying in Kyoto for two nights and looking for a Kaiseki meal, a mutual local friend recommended En. We walked in the first night and asked for a reservation the next day. He didn't hesitate and asked what price of course we would like and what time we were planning to arrive, as well as any dietary restrictions. The next day we learned it was a Japanese national holiday, and we are fairly certain he opened just for us. The food was spectacular! If my friend or I are ever in Kyoto again we will definitely drop in and ask for a reservation again.

Fair warning, there was a language barrier, he spoke very little English and we spoke very little Japanese, but between his translation device and our Google translate apps were we able to understand the dishes and have a pleasant conversation. I only mention this because of other previous negative reviews. Do not let the language barrier keep you away from an...

A stunning accomplishment. The chef has his own style and he prepares his food with both care and with a familiar warmth to his customers. Rather than focusing on following convention or trends, he prepares a fine meal that is held in an atmosphere of relaxation. When he decides to flex his creative muscles something wonderful can happen. His tempura fig in soy sauce is unique and extremely, extremely good. You should go here to enjoy the evening. Don’t carry preconceptions. Sit, wait for him to serve, and take a moment to explore the tastes in...
