My friend and I were staying in Kyoto for two nights and looking for a Kaiseki meal, a mutual local friend recommended En. We walked in the first night and asked for a reservation the next day. He didn't hesitate and asked what price of course we would like and what time we were planning to arrive, as well as any dietary restrictions. The next day we learned it was a Japanese national holiday, and we are fairly certain he opened just for us. The food was spectacular! If my friend or I are ever in Kyoto again we will definitely drop in and ask for a reservation again.
