Kab Kao Ban — Restaurant in Kyoto

Kab Kao Ban is an excellent Thai eatery tucked away in north end of Pontocho. The couple running Kab Kao Ban are both extremely friendly and made me feel very at home. I was eager to eat something spicy and their pad kra pao moo saap was exactly what I needed. (Spicy OK? Phet phet krab~!) I really loved how the kra pao was lightly fried crisp; the leaves still imparted their trademark peppery flavors, but also introduced a very interesting texture into the dish. The food was fantastic! Even the side soup, something I'd normally skip in Bangkok, was great.

Stumbled upon Kab Kao Ban in Pontocho, and it was just what I was looking for. This small but cozy spot offers horigotatsu-style seating, perfect for those who prefer an intimate setting. The Thai-Japanese couple who runs it is incredibly welcoming, adding to the warm atmosphere. They serve only lunch, with authentic Thai flavors that are freshly cooked and absolutely delicious.
