The owner told us he spent years living in Italy, learning about the Italian kitchen but also about celiac disease (which is a lot more common in Italy and Europe than it is in Japan). He took this knowledge with him when he started Icaro in Nara. We couldn't be happier. The food was delicious and items that weren't gluten free already were offered gluten free too (pasta, pizza).

This was an awesome experience, which I can recommend to anyone visiting Nara, including those who do not need to eat gluten free. The only 'negative' I can think of is that it's pretty far away from the major tourist attractions in Nara, so we needed to take a taxi to get there.
