Sushi Naniwa — Restaurant in Onomichi

Previous reviews for this place do not seem accurate.

Onomichi is pretty difficult to eat in if you don’t plan way ahead (you need a reservation almost everywhere), but this spot was available last second and the chef welcomed us in.

He was very accommodating, he was patient and willing to have conversation via google translate, land his fish was delicious. Not a huge selection, but we had a fresh, 8-piece omakase that included chutoro, Uni, and Kampachi for the equivalent of $10 USD.

Pretty outstanding if you ask me!

The gas owned the restaurant for 53 years and it doesn’t seem like he’s going anywhere.

We had the best experience. The nigiri was very fresh and tasty, the owner was really nice and the place is totally vintage. The set menu comes with tea and iced persimmon for desert which I'd never seen but absolutely loved as it's fresh and not sweet. We paid 1900 per person, the quantity of sushi was great and the owner offered to cut it in half for the children which we'd never heard and appreciated a lot - and the kids had a much better experience eating their sushi.
