The hotel is located in a wonderful location (near lake yamanaka) with an amazing view of Mt Fuji. However, this is a review for the restaurant Oyama. If you come to this hotel, do not come for the food. The evening started off well with the appetizers being pretty good (grilled bamboo sesame green salad or an elevated potato salad with roe and poached egg - we got different sets), followed by a sea bream sashimi with seaweed in a dashi soy sauce. Then things just started to go downhill from there …. The shrimp was overcooked, making it very difficult to peel with no side dish to put the shells. Luckily the shrimp was fresh and didn’t need the yuzu mayonnaise it came with. Next came the grilled salmon or eel. The salmon was dry and fishy, while the eel was grilled and placed a plate with two sliced cucumbers (very uninspired, and nothing to be amazed about). Then we got to the meat course. My partner ordered the Fuji set and I ordered the Omika, his has wagyu and mine is a Japanese beef. We were both served the exact same thing and when we asked about it, they came back saying oh there’s no wagyu tonight. Our sets have a 4000 yen difference, why didn’t anyone inform us when we were ordering. This is very unprofessional and shocking for a luxury hotel. Finally the sushi course and all of the pieces were barely edible, omg I’ve had better grocery takeout sushi than this in America. If you made it this far, the dessert was meh and there was a gratuity and service charge.
This is the WORST meal I’ve ever had in Japan, which is very unfortunate considering the location.
Tip: always look up reviews on tabelog (anything over 3.5 is good). We made the mistake of being lazy this one time...

Read moreVery interesting meal. The waitress were very friendly and provided a room service for food I couldn't finish there.
Very unique experience overall. Never really ate Japanese food in this style. As the local Japanese restaurants in my homecountry Malaysia tends to have their own interpretation upon Japanese cuisines, and it ends up being more cooked and more of an interpretation for our local culture rather than the proper original Japanese...
