Soup: It tastes good! It's got a nice miso pork flavour. The broth was nice and creamy too. Surprisingly little fat on it for the amount of flavour it's packing, but in consequence it's a hint salty and it's pretty heavy. Having a bowl of rice to use to soak up the soup fixed that though.
My first sip of the soup, I was intrigued because I got a nice deep mushroom flavour. Whether or not that's what I'm supposed to get, I don't know. It was good though. This kind of went away as I had more, but came back when I had it with rice. There was also a little pile of ginger paste in there, and it added a little brightness to the dish when you mixed it in.
Toppings: The pork was upper-mid. Sometimes pork has this metallic taste if it's not thoroughly marinated and this was that. The thickness was good and the fat was well-rendered.
The egg was delicious. Well-cooked to a perfect soft boil. Not marinated for too long, and it comes with the soup to boot. The yolk mixes well with the soup and adds a lot of flavour.
Noodles: Noodles were good. They had a nice chew to them, and for the soup by itself, they are a perfect match. I would recommend not getting the rice with the soup, since by itself, the soup with noodles is a unit.
Service and atmosphere:
The atmosphere is pretty neat. I really dig the old Japanese ramen shop vibes, and this place has that. When I walked past, there was a lovely smell that pulled me right in. It was smoky and smelled amazing. A small shop with few seats and a cool retro vibe. Orders are done through a neat old ticket machine.
As for the shop keeper, he was quiet. No "いらっしゃいませ" that you'd normally get, but that's fine. I'm looking for soup, not a conversation. He was busy doing his thing, and if it means delicious food, that's all I need.
Overall, very good. It's right across from where I live, so I'll likely be back...
Read moreLove this place. Owner is polite, but not talkative, which I prefer. Food is awesome and very filling . I still can’t finish a small portion ramen. Added translation of the ticket machine. I’ve tried miso and shoyu ramen both are really good. The owners music choice is great and makes the whole experience...
