What a pleasure it is to find such an amazingly authentic South Indian thali in Japan’s northernmost island! Located in a quietish neighbourhood across the Toyohira River from Susukino, this unpretentious small restaurant is big on taste.

The basic vegetarian set of some eight dishes, basmati rice, and a freshly-fried papadum - all lovingly plated - is an absolute feast for the eyes and tummy. Add a serving from the daily choice of non-veg curries and it’s almost guaranteed to send one into postprandial bliss!

For the uninitiated, there’s even meticulously worded explainers: names and descriptions of each dish, as well as suggestions on how best to enjoy the meal.

The unfailingly polite and friendly Japanese chef/owner takes his craft very seriously - and it shows! This is definitely one of those restaurants I’d like to visit repeatedly each time...

I visited with a friend on a Wednesday at around 1pm without a reservation. There is no dedicated parking, but there are oaid parking areas about 5 minutes walk from the restaurant. There aren't many seats and we were lucky to get a seat as soon as we walked in. Lots of other people who came after us we informed that they will have to wait as the seats are full. Seating is provided first come first serve. The restaurant had a very nice curry smell as you walked in. You can select the vegetarian set and then add chicken or fish portions as per your requirements. Since the restaurant was crowded, we received our food after about 25 minutes of waiting. The food looked and tasted good. The owner speaks...

Authentic South Indian Cuisine in Sapporo This is a hidden gem in Sapporo, offering an authentic taste of South Indian cuisine. What makes it even more commendable is that the restaurant is run by a Japanese chef, whose dedication to learning and mastering South Indian flavors truly shines. We had vegetarian meals, and it was evident how much thought and research had gone into the preparation. The flavors were spot-on, the presentation was delightful, and the attention to detail made the experience unforgettable.
