This place was the only nearby shabu restaurant that was open and allowed online reservations. People were inside enjoying a good time but I could tell that they were a bit understaffed and felt somewhat bad for the two female servers. One half my height was hustling but you could tell that two people cannot reasonably serve 12 tables especially with boiling cauldrons of water with orders coming in every few seconds.
We were probably the only foreigners and while there was an English menu, I think they were nervous to engage with us. From the time we were seated, no one came to take our order for almost 10 minutes (maybe they assumed we needed more time to make up our minds) but another Japanese couple that came in well after we sat down were greeted by the host immediately and had their orders taken. I was patient about this but wife was not so happy.
Food was good. I usually never order pork at a shabu place but the pork here was sliced thin enough to where it was more melt in your mouth and tender than the black beef. I wound up getting this the most. Subsequent orders were easier as there was an English menu you could use a QR code to order with. Drinks were additional cost above the ayce price
Also when we checked out, my wife noted that all the Japanese customers were offered a complimentary dessert but no one offered us any dessert.
I don’t think this place is as foreigner friendly as you will not receive the same level of service or hospitality which is a bit regrettable since our experience in Hokkaido has otherwise been stellar and hospitable. I could tell the girls were working hard but they didn’t see too happy and maybe were having a rough and exhausting day so I can’t be too critical but it was a bit off putting to feel discriminated against even when we were polite...
Read moreFood is nice but the total cost was calculated wrong for two consecutive times for reasons beyond us.
We ordered beef tone set @ 4900 JPY per person and 600 JPY for unlimited drinks per person. We told the waitress twice that we wanted the 600 JPY unlimited drinks - after which she provided us with a QR code saying we could order the meat together with the drinks.
When we said we pay for the bill, we were given a bill that is over 20000 JPY- we were charged 3* 4900 JPY per person and charged for every drink that we ordered when it should be 600 JPY for unlimited drinks. We were surprised and spoke with the waitress to get it changed. She went back and brought a revised bill. However, that was again wrong. We were charged 1800 JPY for 3 * 600 JPY per person unlimited drinks and separately for Ulon Tea again and for some other drinks. We had to feedback again and get it changed.
Not sure what is happening but very bad experience and dishonest/ dodgy dealing. Be very careful about how the total...
Read moreWe were highly disappointed with our first and definitely last visit to this restaurant. While the food was visually appetising, the portion sizes were outrageously small and the service was incredibly slow. Despite being told they were "booked out" days before, the restaurant was barely half full when we arrived.
The staff were unprofessional, distracted by their phones, and more interested in chatting with each other than serving customers. Upon entering, we were not greeted or made to feel welcome, which was especially disheartening as we were visiting from abroad.
As non-Japanese speakers, we took a little extra time to order, but instead of patience, we were met with eye-rolling and clear frustration from the staff. Given the high prices, the overall experience was upsetting and unworthy of a return visit. This may have been the worst restaurant we visited during our entire two week...
