Since I was staying at a hotel nearby, I accidentally discovered this small restaurant selling Indian and Nepalese cuisine. As a lover of pan-Indian cuisine, I couldn't miss it, so I went to eat there with my mom. My Japanese is terrible, but the staff's English was very fluent, so there was no need to worry about communication issues, which was great. I've worked in Singapore for many years and often went out to find good food with colleagues from India. Personally, I think their food is no less than Singapore's Michelin Bib Gourmand-recommended Bismillah Restaurant. Their flavors seem to have been modified a bit, probably to make them more acceptable to other Asians. The spices are not as strong, resulting in a rich but milder taste. The drinks are also not as sweet as those in India, which I really like as I find Indian drinks too sweet! The naan bread is also super delicious, with a subtle sweetness and wheat flavor. It's chewy and fragrant, with a slight charcoal-grilled taste but without being overly blackened or burnt. It's grilled to perfection, much better than those in Singapore's Little India. The only thing I found inauthentic was the service attitude - they were super polite, whereas in India, waiters practically throw the plates at you! 🤣🤣🤣 I also think their pricing is super economical. You can enjoy a hearty exotic meal for less than 1000 yen, which is hard to find at this price in East Asia. The two guys in the store are also very handsome. They also sell many cooking ingredients, so even if you're not eating, you can come in and check out what they're selling. It seems that few Japanese people come in to eat; it's mostly foreigners. I don't know if it's because of their strong exotic vibe, but I definitely recommend everyone to try this restaurant. Don't miss out on this hidden gem because of your timidity! I'm sad that I have to leave Takamatsu. I hope I can eat here again when I come back...
Read moreThis restaurant is great! The best biriyani I have had so far in Japan (they use basmati rice and the chicken used inside was still juicy, not dry). I have also tried the Thakali set, which had a great assortment of foods. The mango pickles reminded me of my friend's home-cooked meals, and the curries that I had were not sweet like many versions in Japan. I also recommend the masala chai, which is bold, sweet, and rich. It is tea-forward with a hint of masala, rather than the heavy cinnamon syrup concoction you often find at cafes.
The little grocery corner inside the shop is also great. Essential spices and ingredients for South Asian home cooking, including jasmine and basmati rice, and inexpensive but delicious loose leaf tea. They also have a freezer section, where you can find various halal meats, including whole broiler chickens (great for toaster-oven roasting, or making stocks).
The owner is also friendly and kind, and the service is always welcoming. Since their new cook joined and their menu has expanded, this place has only gotten better and better, so I highly...
Read moreWas based in Kagawa for a couple of months last year. Super grateful for this restaurant as it is one of the few Halal restaurants around. Price was pretty reasonable too and the food was tasty and filling! There were a lot of options for Nepalese/Indian cuisine, I even got addicted to the the Masala Chai! Bonus was, they even stock up halal meat and spices. The best to me was the service by the staff. They always made me feel welcome especially Anit. Dhanyawad, Anit. Will definitely go there again if I...
