Yakitori no meimon Akiyoshi — Restaurant in Takaoka

Used to be one of the greatest restaurants in Takaoka and a great place for the "gaijin community" to congregate in Western Toyama Prefecture. However, they've changed their seating making it cramped and uncomfortable if not unusable for larger people (of which I am one). The counter seats have also been fixed to the ground making them difficult to use. The sad thing about this is their previous facilities had plenty of space for larger people and were quite comfortable. Unfortunately those days are gone, and despite having some great memories at this shop, my groups will now be taking our business to other restaurants which have more appropriate and thoughtful facilities which do not discriminate against larger-than-average clientele. Sorry Akiyoshi. It wasn't broke; you shouldn't...

We went in spontaneously as we were hungry after a sightseeing day in Takaoka. The atmosphere was very friendly and watching the chefs preparing the food over the flame was very nice. When entering the restaurant, the chefs and waiters greet in unison which was also very nice. I know that it's normal in Japan to be greeted with "いらっしゃいませ" when entering a facility, I just didn't expect all of them to say it with that much energy. An English menu was available which made ordering easy for us. The chefs also chanted something here and there. We couldn't understand it but it was quite entertaining and contributed to the unique atmosphere. They have a broad menu with vegetable and meat options you can choose from. Everything was very delicious! ご馳走さまでした～...

追記▶️2025/08/16 17:30位。 2人だから案内されるのめっちゃ早くて20分待ちくらい。店内はすでに満々だったんだけど初の2階に案内された。下駄箱に靴入れて入室。2人がけのお席😳え！すご！！こんなんなってんだー😳

大人数で行きたい人は絶対！！予約した方が良い。

ちなみに、2階はオーダー入ってから出てくるまでめっちゃ遅いので要注意⚠️しかも、こちらから確認しないとどれが出たかも分かってない。ねーちゃん達どすどす歩くからめっちゃうるさいし。

接客業でしょ？って感じ。 焼き鳥美味しくなかったら最悪でしかない。
