Goro Sushi — Restaurant in Tokyo

This is a second generation owned traditional style sushi house that has been here for 50 or so years. It is more well known and frequented by locals by virtue of it being off the beaten path. The way the other more modern buildings awkwardly bend and dance around its vintage structure attests to its deep roots in the community. Not only does it serve excellent sushi, the owner and his staff are exceptionally kind and friendly people. However, do not expect an American/western atmosphere. The sushi is exceptionally fresh and the dishes they serve are as delicious as they are authentic. Don't ask for a rainbow roll or some other trendy or foreign influenced dish, get some original Japanese sushi. They have a picture menu for gaijin that don't speak Japanese fluently, such as myself. However, they love foreigners and always make them feel welcomed. If you walk in and at least try to order in Japanese, then you have already won their hearts. I'm usually a sushi roll kind of guy but this day I decided to go with the all around platter of sashimi and rolls included and I loved each and every piece I had. I even had the octopus dish and was impressed on how it didnt have that extremely rubbery texture I've had at other establishments. There was a soup I also received that had what looked like a prawn head in it not sure what the name of it was but was really good. Absolutely loved Goro Sushi! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They offer an English menu. Their sign outside says Cash only. We ended up ordering the 2 of the Special Set, a Tempura set, crab with mayonnaise roll, and shrimp with mayonnaise roll.
