No. (number) is an all day cafe that serves food, coffee and alcohol that is conveniently located right outside of the Yoyogi Uehara train station. The place is operated by a design company, which explains their stylish menus and business cards.
I have been here a few times since they opened a few months ago and while I haven't had a chance to try their coffee, I can say that their cocktails are excellent. The cocktail menu is divided into two sections - alcoholic and non-alcoholic - and are numbered rather than with names of the drinks. Each alcoholic drink has a corresponding non-alcoholic version, which is great for people who don't drink alcohol. I think mocktails are slowly becoming popular in Tokyo, as many of the best bars in the city have started to offer more mocktails on their menus. Their signature cocktail is the coffee-based cocktail No. 3. It's definitely more of a dessert cocktail, but it's a great drink to finish the day if you're up for something on the sweeter side.
During the mornings and afternoons you'll see a lot of young people sitting alone and studying or doing work on their laptops, but as the day goes on there will be more people who are coming in with friends for coffee, lunch or cocktails. If you go later in the day they have their happy hour, which they call Magic Hour and they will have special cocktails that are about 1,000 yen each. I have tried a few of them already and I have enjoyed these drinks as much as their regular cocktails. They also have a gyoza pop-up event on Tuesdays where they serve gyoza from Gyo-en and special cocktails to go with the gyozas so I would highly recommend that you go on a Tuesday if you like gyoza.
Overall, No. is a great addition to this residential neighborhood, which didn't have a lot of bars, and it has become one of my go-to places whenever I...
Read moreI wanted to try No. since I believe the coffee they serve is from a local roaster that's quite well known. The name escapes me at the moment.
I tried the seasonal coffee and it was alright. Nothing horrible but it didn't blow me away either.
I also got the cheese terrine (チーズテリーヌ) which I have never heard of or had before! It was described as a cheesecake but it definitely had a stronger cheese taste than what you'd traditionally expect.
I really enjoyed it, especially as someone that loves cheese. The serving size was perfect too as it was rather rich, so I didn't want to eat too much. It paired well with coffee too.
The space is absolutely beautiful with a retro bar feel, especially when taking the music choices into consideration. I can really see this place come alive at night when it...
Read moreIt is a nice place. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Cold brew was very tasty and relatively cheap, only 500 yen. The mocktail on the the other hand was very very sweet and very very small portion. I took strawberry syrup, amazake, hojicha, kibi sugar cocktail, but all you can taste was suuuuugar and a bit of amazake. So I can't recommend this one. Maybe other cocktails are better. The atmosphere was okay but I expected it to be more stylish yet cozy. It is nice to come here once, but I am pretty sure I will...
