A fantastic local Yudaonsen izakaya, conveniently located to all the major hotels and ryokan in the middle of the city (especially Matsudaya, it's less than a block away)!
I had the joy to eat dinner here in 2022 and again last month in 2025. The only issue with Isokura Yuda is that you really, really, REALLY need to make a reservation for dinner - they were constantly turning away patrons because they were full when I was there (it was Golden Week, however). Also, you better be prepared to speak some limited Japanese - the staff is EXTREMELY busy, and don't have time to try to help you translate the menu.
What I loved most about this izakaya was the lively and energetic/frenetic atmosphere (complete with live fish tank, etc) and the super fresh fish and seafood served. Delicious, plentiful, and reasonably priced. What more could you ask for?
Well, one thing - again, none of the staff spoke any English, hence I received TWO nama biru right off the bat - I think I ordered it that way, yeah, probably so??? I guess so.... hahaha, I drank them together, mottaianai janai!
If I'm wandering through Yudaonsen again (and I will be so in 2 months from now!), I'll be sure to get there EARLY to make a dinner reservation at Isokura...
