松美食堂 — Restaurant in Yamanouchi

I had problems finding this restaurant on google maps as the local maps describe it as Matsumi Shokudo which was nowhere to be found.

However, a local led me to the place and sinage says Matumi Syokudo. Then I later found it on google as Syokudo and Teishoku - a bit confusing.

It really was a home setting. Menu was extensive, pictorial with Japanese and English descriptions, which was most helpful.

I had trouble deciding and in the end picked the Pork Tonkatsu with egg set menu served over rice, pickles and delicious miso soup. It was a very generous portion.

The tray of garnish on each table had a special teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, white pepper, chilli sesame oil, chilli powder - I tried them all and loved it!

A small local restaurant runs by a lovely Japanese family. Famous for their pork cutlet curry rice (katsu don). Make sure you are a big eater before you order or otherwise you will regret. The serving is so huge that you will be shocked to see how big it is. I ordered a regular size and it only cost me ¥1200. Totally worth it even though I didn't managed to finish it. This eatery is located in a small lane in yudanaka onsen in Nagano. We read about it in Google and decided to give it a try. For curry tonkatsudon lovers, this is one shop where they can indulge in the biggest portion I've ever seen.
