I've been to 10 different Indian / Nepal curry restaurants in the Yokosuka area. Nirvana has friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere. They also do take out and accept orders over the phone which is very convenient.
The flavor and texture of the curry at Nirvana is very good. The spices, the quality of the mutton meat, and the aroma are all great. You won't see a layer of oil floating on top like you will at some of the other curry restaurants in Yokosuka (those places should be avoided unless you are "bulking" on purpose).
I have mixed feelings about their rice: The saffron rice is very light flavored compared with that of some other nearby restaurants. The turmeric rice, though soft and good, was very light on flavor and aroma. However it does not seem oily or buttery, which indicates it is likely lower calorie than the turmeric rice at nearby establishments. The naan bread I had was a bit burnt but did taste good.

The lunch curries are limited which seems to be the norm in Yokosuka, but this location charges extra for the butter chicken. The flavor of the butter chicken was not the best either, but it was good. The soup served at the beginning was delicious. The Nan was hot and fresh and unlimited. I'm still disappointed that the turmeric rice seemed like local Japanese rice and not basmati, but I've noticed that at other locations as well. The chicken Tikka was a good flavor. The staff was so nice and happy, this alone will bring me back, but next time I'll get the Paneer, but will pay more because it's not included in the lunch set.
I'm still on the quest to find a favorite...

Descend down the narrow stairs and see the notes penned on the wall from countless past diners and love notes to others. Once inside you are greeted warmly by the manager and seated in a cozy nook to enjoy a great meal.
This place has character and the staff is very friendly. A bit cozy small for some, but that's what kept us coming back again and again.
The staff can modify almost any dish to meet #vegan and #glutenfree needs. English speaking staff, accepts cash (Yen only) and...
