The pizza was great. The service was bad that it is worth mentioning on here.
Called in a order because our children are young and to wait in a restaurant with little kids can be a lot at times. It was our first time here and we didn't realize the pizzas were thin and quickly made.
When we called in, the owner asked when we were going to be there, we said 10 mins as GPS indicated we were. (We live in yomitan) we got there and parked around the corner in overflow parking. Got inside, waited for 2 tables to be cleared and 2 more people to be helped and let the owner know we were the phone order. He then proceeded to complain about us to the rest of the staff under his breathe and then came over to us to basically lecture us before serving us the pizza. He went on and on about how the pizza is no longer fresh and he only made it cuz we said we would be 10 mins and it's well over 10 mins. We tried replying with that's ok it's cooled off and making conversation but he continued to talk at us reiterating how imperative it is to stick to the time. I guess walking from the parking lot and waiting in the restaurant took that much extra time? Dude acted like we walked in a hour late. Regardless he just took it way too personally and his standoff ish behavior didn't stop as we were paying. His staff (family) was nice enough to thank us at the end of the meal as we were leaving. This was a horrible first impression and if the flavor of the pizza due to it being cold didn't disappointment us, you sure made sure your lack of customer service skills did defeating your whole purpose of getting frustrated with strangers.
I get there's a ton of pride in their pizzas and the fresh oven taste but there is way better ways to express that than to awkwardly assert his irritated opinion to a table and room full of other customers was trashy and says a lot about his character.
So...fyi uchina time is strictly prohibited...
Read moreI came to visit Kokopelli Pizza on a lovely Saturday evening (last week). It made it great to eat in as there is outdoor sitting and limited indoor seating. Upon arrival, I noticed that restaurant parking was limited but I was able to find parking nearby. Once I got to the restaurant, I was greeted with a warm welcome and great assistance at the front. I was provided a full overview of their specials and menu items. I will say all of the assistance was satisfying and make it easy to order. The staff is rated 5 out of 5 stars.
I ordered a Spicy Meat Lovers Deluxe (Special) (¥2,100) with a Ginger Ale (¥300). It cost me ¥2,400. Great for those who enjoy pizza and spiciness. I enjoyed every bite of the eight-sliced pizza. The crust had the right thinness and crispness. The toppings were evenly distributed making it perfect for taste and texture.
The environment is professional with a very vintage style. It is great for families and friends. The accessible is fitting for all people making it worry free for those needing assistance navigating the restaurant. There is a step up for the indoor seating and the restrooms (outdoors). So, please be cautious of that.
I highly recommend that you make the drive to Kokopelli Pizza and give their pizza’s a taste. Your taste buds and belly will thank you for the trip. It would be nice if there was a Kokopelli’s in the Chatan, Ginowan, or...
Read moreDiscovered Kokopelli Pizza when we first moved to Okinawa in 2015 and have been huge fans ever since our very first visit. As a professional chef and former restaurant owner, I pay close attention to details and Mike and his family are all about the details...
Handmade and tossed crusts, homemade sauces, freshly grown basil and peppers... all cooked to perfection in a self-made wood fire pizza oven. Down to the art on the walls, bottled homemade sauces, freshly baked breads, kombucha -- it's just all about the creativity of making superior products every single time in their shop.
Honestly, I cannot count the number of times over the years we've been to Kokopelli, but, I've tried pretty much every pizza spot in a 20 mile radius, down to Naha and back again -- Kokopelli just beats them all hands down. It's just hard to find anyone who lovingly labors over their pizza time and time again; so until I find another worthy content here in Okinawa, I'm putting Kokopelli up at the top of our marks.
Oh, and after 30+ years as a chef, I'm pretty humbled to hear both my youngest two boys tell me they'd rather have Kokopelli than any of my Pizza prodigies. Such is the life... Carry on the pure excellence and creative journey Kokopelli, our family is obviously hooked...
