Came in here just before they closed, we didn’t want food just dessert so the owner was ok with it. This restaurants feels like nothing has changed since it was built as it felt like a relic to be in the presence of. The zenzal we had where rice puff was grilled and dunked into the matcha and red bean soup is so memorable. It highlights Japanese desserts in the best possible way with simple ingredients but done so well. The tables were slightly raised off traditional tatami mats and you need to take your shoes off. I wonder if the dessert is so good, the main dishes must be another memorable one in what is a very traditional town...
Read moreThis place has a very particular and very enjoyable vibe. Very Japanese, but not stuffy at all. Eclectic but not trying too hard. Lots of old books. Cushions on tatami. Good food. All we got was sweets but they hit the spot on a hot summer day. Speaking of which, on a random blistering Tuesday afternoon, not a soul was to be seen in the sleepy town, except this place was full.
