The Watchmaker — Restaurant in St. Helier

Been a few times and always had lovely cocktails, last night was a different matter.

I have a dry martini made with Monkey 47. I thought it looked odd because the drink was barely translucent, it looked more like a dirty martini with how cloudy it was.

Then the garnish. Traditionally a twist is served with a martini, but I had olives, which are served with a vodka martini. And whilst a minor issue, still one that indicates a lack of knowledge: two olives. One or three, never two.

I had a sip and yes, a dirty martini as suspected, brine from the olives. I had it remade yet it was still salty, and cloudy. It's a pity as I've never had these issues in my few previous visits, and I need somewhere that does a...

We were extremely disappointed with our experience, the only disappointment of our whole holiday. We took ages to choose a bottle of wine, only to be informed it was out of stock. We then asked for advice on similar wines and sampled a couple, which we weren't keen on. We chose another bottle, and again, it was out of stock. We ended up settling for 3 separate glasses and decided to move on elsewhere.

One glass had a red wine stain at the bottom (this was an order of white wine), and another glass had bits of cork in the wine. For a wine bar, this is really unacceptable and something that could easily be avoided with due care.

Visited The Watchmaker on their opening night to the public and was not disappointed! Owner Bruno was as involved as any owner I’ve ever met with a true passion for what he does! Harry on the bar provided exquisite cocktails throughout the night and not to mention the superb customer service provided by Marissa the general manager who went above and beyond to make the time we spent there an experience to remember!!
