Mark Jordan at the Beach — Restaurant in St. Peter

Lovely atmosphere, great food and superb service, but it's expensive compared to its peers.

We were able to book quite late for dinner, (in off-season), and had a table without the sea view, but that wasn't a problem.

The menu is long enough to give you a good choice, with both fish and meat both having starring roles.

The food was very good, and any criticism below should be read only as a comparison to other similar restaurants I have been to. These are either 1 Michelin star establishments, or very close to being.

My starter, (salmon and prawn tortellini in Thai broth), was the star of the meal for me. The gentle warmth of chilli combined with the usual Thai flavours such as Nam Pla were superb with the beautiful tortellini. My companion had the scallops which were beautifully cooked, but a touch unexciting.

The 30 hour braised short ribs of beef with celeriac puree and onion rings were next. The puree was wonderful, soft and smooth. I haven't experienced deep fried onion rings raised to this level before, and the slow cooked beef fell apart in its rich, sticky and glorious sauce. I have had better before, but not a lot better.

My companion loved her duck dish.

The raspberry souffle with raspberry ripple ice cream was large, perfectly risen, and tasty. My main concern was that the raspberry flavour in the souffle seemed slightly artificial, although I can't put my finger on exactly why. The texture of the souffle was also not quite as good as I have had before, being overly light, and a bit too liquid at the bottom.

We had an excellent Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire with our starters, and moved on to a St Emilion with our mains. This wine was much more lightweight than we expected, and whilst delicious, was possibly not the best match with our choice of mains. I don't recall this being mentioned in the wine list.

I have been very picky in the criticisms above. We had a wonderful meal, and I would highly recommend the restaurant.

One important point may be a function of the restaurant's location, but I don't think it is very good value for money. I have had similar standards of food at highly rated restaurants for 40% less than we paid here. This may be a...

Being a regular visitor to jersey Being the month of may every year for the last 15+ years to celebrate my wife's birthday and love the island massively.

This year my decided to book for an unforgettable experience with myself and my wife was massively disappointed, yes as other's have said the view was amazing but the food was far from it.

The starters were none none excistent and as for the mains well it was so disappointing, my MJ signature Jersey beef burger definitely was not a signature burger, the brioche bun was none other than burnt to black in colour and tasteless and my wife's tempura batter cod matches the same colour as the brioche roll and there's no way tempura is ment to be black in colour.

The fact that both mains comes with 6 chips was like a game of jenga, they tasted like they were still coated in the soil that they were grown in and we both know for a fact that jersey royal potatoes are absolutely amazing.

These so call chips were awful, this was mentioned to the waiter and all the reply we got was that I'll make sure to mention it.

We have visited many food establishments all over the island and mark jordan on the beach will definitely not be a place we will visit again.

Other reviews that have been left are obviously people that have experienced good food and everyone is entitled to there own opinion and unfortunately this is mine, personally the price we paid was sooooo very much not worth it so a lesson learnt and a very expensive one at that.

Sensational evening. Every single thing was exceptional from the staff, the food, the wine!

We were given the option of sitting inside or outside. We got a lovely private table with a view of the beach- gorgeous.

They offered us focaccia and brown bread with salted butter. I'm certain the bread is made in the kitchen rather than bought. Either way it was gorgeous. In fact everything I ate was sensational. So much talent and passion is evident.

I had the gnocchi starter which (would suit a vegetarian). The gnocchi was crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. The sauce was creamy and garlicy. It was served with mushrooms which I typically don't love but I ate every one!!

Then I had the seabass main, with a beautiful crispy skin and served on a bed of potatoes and a pesto (I think) salsa. Again every mouthful was incredible.

I didn't have room for dessert this time but my partner's looked like a work of art.

We interacted with three staff members throughout our visit and this is customer service done right!! Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive. Just amazing. The restaurant was busy and they were working hard but still made it seem like a pleasure.
