There is no shortage of wonderful things to say about this fine establishment, which has no doubt earned its place as a national - dare I say, a global treasure ! At this point, my only regret is that, on account of the climate crisis, I can not myself travel to all 4 corners of our universe, to spread the good news that is lava latte. As such, this humble Google review will have to suffice.
To begin with, the Greek salad is without flaw. truly it is an exquisite medley of all good things. An impeccable symphony of flavors. The feta chunks are appropriately chunky, the olives plentiful, and the dressing, just lovely. Would you believe I first tried this in December; thereafter, I immediately ordered a second helping - a double portion. Flew to South Africa in the days following where I spent several weeks daydreaming about that salad, in particular. The only sensible thing left to do was to exploit a long layover in Nairobi - use the opportunity to travel back to Lava Latte to indulge, once more. I did so in January. No regrets.
On both occasions I washed my salad down with a pair of margaritas (I took mine with salt on the rim) from the bar. Another wise choice. The cocktails here are nothing short of spectacular. Masterfully crafted, impeccably chilled - the perfect blend of spirit, citrus, and sweetness. Wow! I was especially pleased to find that I was not at all short-changed on spirit to cocktail ratio - something I deeply appreciate :)
I was so fortunate as to meet and speak with one of the proprietors of the establishment, whose sense of style, general good humor and commanding wit were surpassed only by her warm generosity. She kindly offered me a tour of the entire complex, as well as the neighboring businesses, each one a remarkable venture in its own right. And the longer I stayed, the more it seemed, that all the veritably cool and fascinating people had the singular thought to pass through the establishment at the same time, more or less. By nightfall, a lively congregation of a dozen or so interesting, beautiful souls had gathered. What a time!
Great food, great cocktails,...
Read moreLava Latte is one of those hidden gems that is perfect for that Sunday brunch or lazy Saturday afternoon. Located next to the statehouse along Statehouse road. The ambience is laid back with the open terrace providing beautiful views around the area. There is a hidden spot just past the main restaurant with nice couches for reading and just chilling. The place also has a vast book collection for those who would love to just sit, bum, read and relax within the area. The food portions are amazing and food is super delicious thanks to the chef. He takes time to check on the guests and whether they enjoyed the food. One great point for Lava Latte is the fact that they are pet friendly and you can bring your dogs around and have fun chilling at the location as you catch up with your friends. The Wi-Fi is great so you can bring your laptops and work all day around Lava Latte. Music selection is also good it compliments the mood of the place. All the staff are friendly and will go beyond their comfort to ensure you have an amazing time over there. Definitely can recommend for those Weekend brunch at cool places. The ambience is great, food is amazing and pocket friendly, service is awesome...
Read moreLava Latte offers an environment that I have personally been looking for.
They play non lyrical music on most days and only once have I heard amapiano music which now doubles up as both club and chill lounge music.
If you're looking for a relaxed restaurant feel with minimally distracting music, this will definitely measure up.
The food is prepared as you wait. You can therefore have a drink as you wait. They offer an array on drinks and are not limited to alcoholic beverages.
Everytime I've been there its been only a few tables with people, which for me is a plus. Its not crowded in my opinion, I'll have to check again.
The servers are kind and speedy to help you out, which doubles up on the experience.
They have both indoor and outdoor sitting area. The lights look real nice.
They have books you can read at the premises. You can take the books home at a cost of KES 1000 that is refundable when you return the book.
They also have some pieces of jewellery, art and clothes for sale at the premises. The pieces are impressive, no cap.
To sum all this up, its a lovely vibe great for solo chilling, couple dates and...
