I read so many good things about this place that i really wanted to visit. But I felt like we were treated as second class visitors from the minute we arrived. Maybe because we are tourists in Latvia. We had a nice table under a cover but we were soon moved to another table which was wobbly and rocky and was under a tree that was shedding pollen and petals into our food and drink all during the meal. There were also wasps and flies coming to our table in that area. The food then all arrived at the same time- starters and main courses. It was very tasty, well cooked and presented, just a bit strange with so much coriander. I asked for them to bring my main course a bit later (because cold fish is not so good) and then the waiters ignored us for the rest of the meal. Several times, waiters passed us by- even took 1 plate away from our table while turning the back in the same move, so eventually after about 1 hour, when all the other food was finished, I eventually got a waiter’s attention and asked them to bring my main dish. It then took a further long time to arrive, so it was really uncomfortable to eat it alone, such a long time after the meal. A very disappointing experience and a bad vibe for the...
Read moreVisited this place a while ago during a rainy day with my mom! I was pleased with everything that was waiting for us! The place itself isn't hard to find, but you may need to get a reservation just in case. There are a lot of visitors (and you can understand why when you tried their food), so we were lucky enough to find an empty table, though it probably depends on a day. Let's start with my favourite part - food. It was amazing there. Everything we ordered there was tasty and made pretty quickly if you could know how many customers were there that day. Food was soooo tasty, so we were really happy about it, because our main goal was to eat something nice, not just some hotdogs. We didn't require that help, but the staff helped by presenting how to eat meals properly! Which, in my opinion, is just amazing and helpful for someone who wants to learn other cultures. Speaking of staff. They are helpful and nice. If you need something, they'll be more than glad to help you. They're doing such a good job! As someone who works in a café, I know how awful and hard rush can be, but they managed amazing! The price overall was positive as well. For the quality and restaurant pretty standard price. Thanks...
Read moreOn a solo backpacking trip, my route took me through Jūrmala and there I found this restaurant, and it was the best place I went during my entire trip! The food was fantastic, very flavoursome and fresh, but the highlight was by far the staff, I was waited on by two people, both of which made me feel welcomed and explained the dished in perfect English for me, after trying some dishes I asked one waiter what his favourite dish was and he seemed very excited to share it with me, he didn't try to get me to spend extra money by saying an expensive dish and it was actually one of the cheapest on the menu, he also said he likes to eat it with some sauce from another dish and he got me a small dish of the sauce on the side too, and the meal was wonderful 10/10. I also got a large pot of pepper and thyme tea and after I had finished it, I was going to buy another pot but the waiter stopped me before I spent another €5 and said that he could just refill the hot water. Everywhere else I've been in my european travels wouldn't have refilled the pot but instead allowed me to spend more money. I don't know if I will ever be near Jūrmala again but if I am anywhere near I will be...
