I had no prior experience with the This Place Doesn't Need A Name franchise, but seeing as they've opened a summer garden within an easy walking distance of my apartments, in an area of Riga which is regrettably short on drink & snack options, I felt compelled to give it a shot.
The place is quite charming, with a glass-walled enclosure housing several tables, and a few more on the open terrace outside. There is also a dedicated place for smoking, well apart from the tables.
Given the semi-permanent, seasonal nature of the place, the kitchen seemed to be fairly small, and the facilities consisted of several infamous blue cabins housing bio-toilets.
My wife and I visited the place accompanied by our chihuahua, and I'm glad to say the dog was welcomed with open arms, and the staff was kind enough to pour a bowl of water for the dog.
Onto the drinks, the menu seemed to be favouring cocktails, with multiple negronis, spritzs and coladas being available. As a staunch beer drinker, though, I was happy to discover a short but sweet list of draught beers, including one of my personal favourites, Madonas unfiltered. My wife chose Bauskas, and the beer we got served was ultra fresh and roundout excellent.
The food situation was a bit more complicated. The menu had decidedly Spanish undertones, with many of the dishes including chorizo or pulpo. There was a broad selection of snack plates and a couple of salads, but the main dishes were limited to various pizzas - a Spanish-Italian fusion? Oh okay, I guess most Mediterranean cuisines mesh together rather well.
After a long deliberation, we decided to share a ten inch chorizo and octopus pizza. Frankly, my expectations were quite low, but the pizza we got served, if not exactly to my taste, was very excellent. The dough had a distinctly charcoaly tinge, indicating it's been properly cooked in a pizza oven, the chorizo was delicious, and the octopus was cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection.
After this visit, I feel confident in recommending This Place Doesn't Need A Name to anyone who happens to be in the area and wants to wash down a good pizza with a couple of beers or cocktails. The serving times are quite short, the prices on drinks are average at about five euro a pint, and the food is a little bit pricey, with small 26cm pizzas costing about 10...
Read moreThis place slowly starts to be a regular place for us. This time we came with friends so we took quite a lot of dishes. Small burgers disappeared in seconds. Person who ordered it was pleased with them. Second dish was Sausage & Octopus. Nothing particularly special about this dish. Was ok. Third dish was Steak with Mac and cheese, it was tasty but not for the price. I wouldn't go foythis dish another time. We also took as snack of Korean corn ribs (no meat, only corn). Quite spicy, but this was nice. Would take again. Our all time favourite of this place is Crispy chicken waffle, comes also with salads. Perfect dish for our taste. Wild take this every time we eat here. And also pepperoni pizza. Decent pizza. Person who ate it, liked it, especially the nuts on it. For dessert we had pancakes, rich with maple syrup and fruits. Nice consistency together with the syrup and jam. And also Bounty of local interpretation. It was ok, but almost every one who tried it didn't like the large salt grains on chocolate. It was nice together with the ice-cream. Place is nice, surprisingly quiet for the location. Staff is polite and helpful. Food was prepared quite fast, I think we waited for some 20-30...
Read moreHad a terrible experience in This Place Doesn’t Need A Name on Klusā street. Staff were extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming, everything was served extremely slowly. We had a reservation for dinner but almost everything on the menu was absent. I tried to be understanding but when we found out they don’t even have restrooms but only porta potty’s which where disgustingly dirty I was done with this place. There were literal feces smeared all over. Absolutely repulsive. Would not recommend this location to anyone, maybe others are different but after this experience I really have little desire to...
