Kampung Nelayan Floating Seafood Market Restaurant — Restaurant in Borneo

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO PAY THIS PLACE A VISIT.

Today, I went to this place after hearing some amazing review. We thought of celebrating my mother’s belated bday here and we came from KL for a short trip in Sabah.

We booked this place in advance since it’s usually full. Apparently it’s famous because of the seafood and cultural dance shows during dinner time.

We arrived and we were shown to our table. We sat and waited for 20 mins, we asked few passing waitress for menu and none of them attended to us. Shortly after we went to see what seafood were available and made initiative to order the food somehow. Lobster was sold out although it was 7.30pm, and there was no flower crabs too. Basically nothing special was there. The lady whom we were asking to also replied with no interest and didn’t wanna take our order. She was a Chinese looking lady, with black hair, tied and has a mole on her face. Very very unfriendly, unpleasant and couldn’t be bothered that we were trying to order. We were so disappointed. Finally we thought we would just have a drink and watch the dance and leave the place.

But yet waiting for some more time, and approaching more waitress, none even glanced at us. Finally we got up and left. Before I left, I approached the petite tudung girl at the reception area who was in charge of reservations and told her that no one attended to us and service was very poor, she just showed us a poker face , turned and walked off! Omg I was super shocked!

Idk who is the owner of this place, but please, train your workers! Your place is famous for tourists, your service isn’t supposed to be this terrible! I’m 33 and in my life I’ve travelled to many places in the country and out of it, this is by far the worst service I’ve ever gotten, sampai kami just terus keluar.

We went for the steamboat buffet. RM48 or RM49 per pax. Senior citizens eat @ half price. FOC for birthday boy/girl.

Live performance at 7.30pm daily. Ok selection of meat and seafood - chicken, fish, beef, crab, claims and shells and the typical lok lok bites. Freshness of the meat and seafood can be improved. Flavour is mediocre.

You can choose either one of two soups - Tom yam soup or chicken soup.

Pros Adequate variety of meat and seafood. I would say it’s a wide variety, but I’ve seen more offered elsewhere for the same price Fish is soft Loved the performances. Was interactive Restaurant itself is generally clean

Cons There is a section for cooked food - vegetables, tofu, chicken. This section isn’t topped up quick enough. I observed at least an hour and saw that the honey chicken dish wasn’t refilled although there were more customers coming in. Slightly hot, but this is normal for open aired restaurants with steamboat settings Expensive for the variety offered

I would recommend this place if you have visitors coming in from out of Sabah purely for the performances and experience of dining in a restaurant on the lake. I cannot justify the taste of the food at that...

Good food and fantastic service!

My wife and 2 children (8 & 10) were on the lookout for halal, good seafood near Pacific Sutera Hotel, and this place seemed to fit the bill.

It was easily accessible via Grabcar (RM11 to get there). We visited on 17/3/17 at about 8pm.

Food: we had -tilapia deepfried with soy sauce- good -tilapia steamed with nyonya sauce- good deep-fried calamari- good crab - dry, chilli-fried style- good mix vege- good prawn- fried with cereal coating-good

The best thing though was the service; we were attended to by Ms Brenda. She was very knowledgeable about the dishes (she made good, spot-on recommendations), very-very attentive (ever-alert to our needs- we had our plates changed as soon as they filled/ timely order deliveries) so much so that we never had to raise our hands for a server's attention; basically she anticipated our every need throughout!

My wife & i have noticed that food& service quality usually suffers at restaurants that have culture shows, but we were delighted to note that this definitely was not the case here.
