I would just like to share my experience here in this restaurant. My family of 12 came from KL to visit Melaka, and we stepped into this restaurant to take our lunch.
All of us wanted to have banana leaf rice, but the waiter told us that they don’t serve banana leaf rice on the table but instead they’ll put on a plate with the traditional banana leaf rice vegetables at the side.
My family members wanted to take some chicken dish (chicken perathal/varuvval) to add to their rice dish, but the waiter came to us and said that 3 small pieces of chicken would cost RM5.50 and that it’s limited to one plate only. This was a shocker, but I didn’t wanna argue much with the waiter as he is just doing his job and it isn’t him who sets the price.
I then jokingly asked the waiter “so do you guys charge extra if I added two spoons of rice to my banana leaf?” (as we all know rice is unlimited when it comes to banana leaf rice) I couldn’t believe it when the waiter replied “yes one banana leaf rice set is RM7.50, if you add more rice to that we will charge you RM3”(rice, 3 types of vege in small amount)
I was shocked to my core when I heard this, some of you might call me cheap for reacting in such a way, but I just couldn’t accept this unrighteousness.
There was never a rule to charge extra cash for extra rice when it comes to banana leaf rice, this new policy is just disgusting as these restaurant owners are just abusing us.
My family have been in this industry for 3 generations now and we have restaurants operating throughout Malaysia, we know how much ingredients costs and how much we’re supposed to charge patrons.
The basic plate of banana leaf rice that they served me would barely cost RM2, instead the charged me RM7.50 on top of that limiting my access to extra rice, and having limitations of 3 small pieces of chicken at RM5.50 is just absurd.
This restaurant, needs to change its policy, I will not go there again. Their food was just mediocre, it was not great to reflect such a price that they charged us.
The owner was arrogant as he barely cared to talk to us when we questioned regarding the price.
We as patrons need to stop supporting arrogant business people like these.
They abuse the system by charging too high and think that they’re Kings and we patrons have no rights to question them.
They charged RM13 just for me, just the basic banana leaf rice set with no additional sides, and a...
Read moreMy experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The fish curry had a flat taste, and the overall quality of the food was mediocre. Additionally, the staff did not seem very attentive or friendly, and the prices were unreasonably high. The overall experience fell short of my expectations.
I also noticed a sign in the restaurant that was quite off-putting. It stated, "Don't interrupt and interview the workers and talk grandmother stories." I believe a more courteous approach would be more appropriate. For instance, they could consider wording it as follows: "Dear Customers, due to our busy and crowded environment, please refrain from engaging in lengthy conversations with our staff unless it's for placing an order or requesting...
Read moreThis superb Indian banana leaf restaurant in Bukit Beruang serves really good breakfast options like thosai, nasi lemak, roti canai, idli & vadai and a wider variety for lunch like banana leaf rice with mutton curry, chicken curry, sambal taufu, fish fry or fish cutlet, mutton pepper fry and many more. Try the biryani as well, you will not regret it. Wash it all down with an orange or plain cold lassi. The Indian food options here are excellent, reasonable to moderate pricing and decent ambiance, best place to hang out (there's outdoor seating, I would not recommend the indoor seating as it is sweltering hot). The boss Shankar is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend everyone...
