Been a frequent customer for a couple of years. The quality has deteriorated significantly over time, that sums up what I'm about to say.
The Restaurant itself: The atmosphere is certainly not inviting, with floors that are not properly mopped and food crumbs scattered across the tables and on the floor. The nasi lemak is served on paper/plates that are only wiped and not washed. The sambal corner is located in a rather inconvenient spot, too close to the trash and easily vulnerable to rain. The sink is utterly dirty and the availability of hand wash and water is inconsistent.
Food: The nasi lemak used to have an aroma so delightful, but now, it's sadly flavourless. The coconut milk is much lighter than before. The sambal, on the other hand, is delightful and exactly my cup of tea. People usually go for the fried chicken but the pieces they cut are much smaller now. As crispy and delicious as it was, it is no point if it is not cooked properly. We got a thigh and drumstick during our visit, but during the chopping process, there was some blood that spilled out. We asked for it to be deep fried again and it was done, but when we ate it, we found that the chicken was not cooked to the bone, and there were some uncooked flesh. This really put us off and it didn't seem like our rezeki that day. However, my friend also experienced this when they visited at a peak time, dinner time on a weekend. A common problem, perhaps. It seems that it's a gamble at those high-traffic times.
Crit? Investing in keeping the place clean and hygienic would be an excellent idea for the owner as I'm sure he is making tons of money, as one can scare away customers with a poor level of cleanliness. A deep fryer should be implemented instead of the wok, as it can provide a guaranteed quality of food with the timer and temperature set properly. I do not understand why this has not happened yet.
Any other comments? With the inflation etc, the price has been steadily rising but it's okay as long as the food is good. My experience here has been less than satisfactory, and I will not be returning. A better bet would be to go to the other branch in Kulai, Kempas, or Hutan Bandar. It is better to pay for mediocre food in a clean environment than for good food in a dirty area. It is my hope that my comments will make a difference, however, I am doubtful of this because most of the reviews for this place are high but if you just look closely, you'll agree with...
Read moreIf you're in the Kulai area, this famous nasi lemak place is a must try for any nasi lemak lover out there. As a Malaysian, I totally appreciate the free flow sambal that you can take if you're dining in. It's a self service establishment, so you need to queue and get your food, drinks and pay. The freshly cooked nasi lemak rice is really good. It's delicious and not clumpy. A hint of pandan, ginger or onion in the rice would have heightened the experience. You can pick whether you want the fried egg with soft or hard yolk. And the piece of resistance, the hot fried chicken. You can even get the "kerak" (fried bits) as well. The chicken is freshly fried and it is super juicy as well. I would recommend the asam boi lemon drink to go with your hot nasi lemak. The price is quite reasonable. As you go and get your cutleries, the dulang full with hot, steaming sambal is there for you to take. If you're packing, take the available packed nasi and the sambal packets. The sambal itself is sweet with a mild hint of spiciness and there's a good amount of anchovies and onions in the sambal. There's an outdoor and indoor seating area as well. Will definitely come back here for the...

The nasi lemak was prepacked. The sambal was prepacked. Rice, sambal with a bit of peanut, anchovies at RM3 per packet. It's a bit pricey in light of the very few ingredients. But the outstanding sambal and coconut rice were well justified the price. 4 stars
Fried chicken was added with an extra RM5. The portion was big. The picture showed just the wing portion as the whole portion was about a quarter of a bird. It was well fried and not too oily. Juicy inside with outer layer crispy. 4 stars
Telur mata goyang (sunny egg with half coked egg yoke) was delicious, especially eaten with the rice and sambal. Extra RM1 for the egg. 4 stars
Total bill for 1 person very satisfying lunch at RM9. There was only 1 slice of cucumber, and i would suggest a bit more vegetables would be a perfect masterpiece. But the ambience was a bit too warm to dine in as the weather nowadays...
