Rasa Sayang—"sayang" means "love" in Indonesian. Stepping into this restaurant feels like a nostalgic trip, right down to the old-school bubble-blowing toys at the entrance. The owner is super friendly, and the menu offers plenty of options.
I went for the Lontong, with less rice cake. It was tasty—though not spicy enough for me—and packed with veggies and a hard-boiled egg. If you like coconut milk-based dishes, you should definitely give it a try. This dish is commonly found at Indonesian or Malaysian stalls in Singaporean hawker centers, and while the version here is quite good, it's not the best I've ever had.
The Nasi Lemak, however, is highly recommended! It comes with generous toppings and a seriously flavorful sambal that I really enjoyed. The crackers were crispy, and the overall seasoning was on point. The rice isn't the long-grain Indian variety, which worked well, and even the soup was nice. If you're a fan, don't miss this one.
My friend ordered the omelette rice, which was also good—the omelette was stuffed with chicken fried rice, and you can choose between ketchup or chili sauce on top.
Their coffee is pretty decent too, and the "Harum Manis" (or "Tiger Bites Lion") drink wasn't overly sweet. The whole vibe here is very local and cozy—I...
Read moreI recently had an unpleasant experience at this restaurant. While the food was generally okay and the setting has a nostalgic, traditional (“古早味”) charm — though without air-conditioning — the service left much to be desired.
When I ordered a set meal, I requested to have only the drink portion as takeaway. However, both the boss and the waiter seemed unable to explain the menu clearly. They insisted I order the items à la carte, which cost RM2–3 more, even though I was dining in and only asking to take away the drink.
If the set menu is strictly not for takeaway, that should have been clearly stated — especially on the printed menu. Instead, the explanation was confusing, and the way they handled the situation felt rude and dismissive. Rather than providing clarity, they kept going in circles, which only made the situation more frustrating.
This experience has caused me to lose trust in the establishment. Good food alone isn't enough when the customer service lacks clarity...
Read moreTucked away in the old part of Kulai lies this wonderful cafe which has nice ambience for some great meals and great coffee. I particularly enjoyed their lontong and the gravy that's goes with the ketupat was superb, their nasi Ayam penyet was their signature dish which shouldn't be missed. Haven't tried their other dishes but from the friendly customer's faces, I shall be returning to try the rest of the chef's recommendations. The kueh mueh is also another must try as it goes down well with their freshly brewed coffee. Glad I found this place for...
