If you're looking for legit BBQ, Smok’d in Johor Bahru is a must-visit! We tried several dishes and each one was impressive:
🔥 Brisket – The absolute star of the meal. Smoked for hours, beautifully tender with a buttery fat cap that melts in your mouth. It had a rich, smoky flavor that made me go back for an extra 500g. That good!
🍖 Beef Ribs – Meaty, juicy, and perfectly smoked. It had a nice bark outside and was fall-off-the-bone tender inside. Full of flavor with every bite.
🍗 Pulled Lamb – Slightly gamey (in a good way), moist and flavorful. A great mix of spices that made it unique compared to other BBQ spots.
🦴 Bone Marrow – Rich, silky, and packed with umami. I wish they served it with rice—it would've been perfect to soak up all that goodness.
🌮 Brisket & Chicken Tacos – Generous portions, soft tortillas, and tender meat. The brisket taco was smoky and rich, while the chicken taco had a nice char and stayed juicy.
🍔 The Boss Burger – Thick, medium-rare beef patty with great char. Juicy and flavorful even after all the photos. Held together well with the soft bun.
🐟 Alaskan Halibut – Light and zesty with a citrus glaze. A refreshing contrast to all the smoky meat dishes.
🥗 Crystalline Salad – My first time trying ice plant lettuce and I loved it! Crisp, refreshing, with roasted sesame dressing, lychee, cashew nuts, wild berries, and sesame seeds. A perfect balance to the meal.
🍛 Lamb Dannoo – Tasted like a Filipino adobo twist—savory, tangy with soy sauce and mild spice. Very comforting and flavorful.
🍨 Banana Split – A simple dessert to end the meal, but satisfying after all the rich dishes.
Honestly, everything was spot on. Smok’d deserves more attention. Highly recommended, especially for the brisket and beef ribs! Will...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is spacious with lots of seating capacity. Unfortunately, me and my partner saw a lizard crawling on one of the pillars which indicated hygiene conditions of the restaurant. Location itself is tucked away from sight and I knew about this restaurant only because my friend posted on a social media that he visited the place. But for those who are familiar with Plaza Angsana in JB, it is not to far away from it. Food wise, I had their Smoked Beef Brisket which was served faster than I could recite the alphabet(which was good). The meat just melted in my mouth and was chewy at the same time. I loved it very much! The mashed potato side dish was good too as it had tiny bits of ingredients(could not make out what it was though) but it was not like smooth like the ones from KFC which I liked it too. It was supposed to come with a side bun but unfortunately they ran out of it hence I had two mashed potatoes side dishes. The coleslaw side dish did not look fresh though although it tasted okay. The meat serving was just proportionately nice for me as although it may looked little for some diners with bigger appetite. For drinks I had a root beer float which was served in a tall slender glass which was delicious and nice too. Overall experience was great except that their menu is pretty limited although they have pastas too. As for service, I had all the waiting staffs attention when I needed extra servings of sauces and the best part was there was no service nor gst charges. I would recommend the place for those who wants smoked meats instead of steaks. Pricing was affordable and paid RM69 for two main dishes including a pasta...
Read moreSmokd had been on my food list for the longest time but I never really had the chance to go. Recently, both my brother and a close friend went there and came back with nothing but good words about the cafe. That finally gave me the push I needed to try it out myself. So, for my very first visit, I went with a group of friends and we were immediately spoiled for choice. The menu was packed with so many tempting options that it was hard to decide what to order.
In the end, we figured the best way was to share, so we could try more dishes at once. We started with the Crispy Onion Ring, which lived up to its name, perfectly crunchy and addictive. Then came the Aglio Streaky Beef Spaghetti and this was exactly my kind of aglio olio. Flavourful, garlicky and balanced so well with the beef, I absolutely loved it. Next, we had the Beef Ragout, which we chose with fettuccini. The portion of beef was generous and the sauce had a little kick to it. It might be slightly spicy for those who can’t take heat but for me, it was delicious. I also liked the touch of seaweed sprinkled on top, which gave it an extra layer of flavour. What’s nice is that for their pasta dishes, you actually get to choose your base : spaghetti, fettuccini or macaroni, depending on what you prefer.
Finally, the star of the night, the Smoked Brisket Set. The beef was so tender, it didn’t even need a knife. My only complaint was that three slices felt too little because it was that good!
Overall, everything we tried tasted amazing. Smokd really impressed us and I’m already planning to come back for more....
