Hard to find Malay dish
Ever since a dear friend, Adrian, posted on what he claimed "the best duck curry", my mind wouldn't stop thinking about it. I day think night think .. think on when I can finally taste it. I don't have any business in Kajang so the visit has to be planned properly. One day when all the stars were aligned perfectly I finally made my way there - it took me freaking 50++ minutes to reach this area in Kajang that I've never stepped into before - in Waze we trust!
The sight of ducks being smoked with coconut shells was inviting, and as we checked in MySejahtera we noticed another stall selling grilled seafood and the word "Petai" attracted my attention.
โพItik Masak Lemak - during this period, they only serve their duck curry in plastic containers and there is price-list for every item. Took a packet of rice to go with the curry because it was the right thing to do ๐ it's very hard to find duck curry nowadays and this proved to be worthwhile because the duck meat was not too hard and the curry gravy stayed true to Malay style. โพIkan Bakar Petai Banjir - we then proceed to this stall and instantly salivating upon seeing so much seafood. We decided to take one grilled fish and cockles covered with their homemade sambal cili. Petai had to be bought separately but you can request more of the sambal at no extra cost. We loved the fish but the cockles were overcooked - I prefer my cockles to be cooked medium.
Needless to say, both of us felt so full after the meal but the satisfaction was at its maximum level. Opens at 11am, we arrived early to finish everything before the lunch crowd started...

Have to long que and be patient hahaha im not sure if customer have to put the petai by ourselves or not bcoz there's no instructions or casher not tell us anything (the petai placed infront of cashier)
I nearly not recognized itik salai restaurant bcoz there's no masak lemak at the front desk hahaha. You have to request the seller then she will give u the masak lemak.. White rice + daging lemak salai + telur goreng + sambal terung 2pcs total RM11. Very reasonable price ๐ค have to que but not so long. Taste is good.. ย ย ย Read moreItik Salai Masthar is famous for its special 'Nogori' cuisine or widely known in Malaysia as Masak Lomak. Trust me when I say 'special' , I really mean it. But as always, everything isn't perfect in this world. I'll explain more in details.
Pros: It's affordable and worth the price you paid for They're certainly generous when it comes to the size of the portion given to their customer. No need to visit Negeri Sembilan for an authentic 'Masak Lomak' and it's reachable due to its location in Selangor.
Cons: The place can be quite crowded in lunch hours and due to its not so-big area, you have to come early to get yourself a table. The meat smoking process is carried out near the eating area and it's somehow irritating for the smoke to reach our table and cause soreness in the eyes.
P/s: All that has been stated were solely based on experience and it is written without prejudice. It's not necessarily true and others might've experienced it differently. It is...
