Hidden away in the Cheras / Balakong area sits this humble little shack touting Penang's Original Mee Rebus. It's quite a maze to get here, so come early. However, the operation hours are a little funny so check before coming.
There are no signboards to inform you that you have arrived. The most easiest way to know if you're there is to look out for a TNB substation, and the stall on the left of that TNB substation would be it.
Seating is available at the back of the shop, and while waiting for your food, take a walk to the back garden and also look out for the little stream that runs behind the shop. Very tranquil and peaceful setting indeed.
The food was not quite to my liking. The mee goreng was fried in a pan that was way too hot, and had lots of burnt bits of mee that were burnt to black in it. Also, the mee was too soft, meaning that it was overcooked before frying.
The mee rebus was better. With a rich, thick, sweet sauce that covers the noodles with bits of bean curd, potatoes (which were undercooked and hard), half a hard-boiled egg and some crackers,, the mee rebus managed to save the trip. Not much.
All in all, I take consolation that, at least, the food was cheap. At RM7 for the mee rebus and RM6 for the me goreng, it's a cheap and cheerful plate of noodles.
Does it live up to it's claim of being a Penang...

The owner puts a strong emphasis on the quality of his food and customer service. He asks his customers about the food and he did not charge us for our drinks. It was a...
