On the table today is Apple Strudel (RM35) from Strudel Bakery House in Klang. It's just a few streets from the other famous Strudel place called Fruity Bakery.
The pastry is crispy but yet not crispy. Confused? Yes, so was I. When I cut through, you can feel the flakes as it breaks but when you bite into the layers, the crispiness deceives you because there is none. The cream is light and doesn't give you the feeling of queasiness as you pile in but I feel as though a more dense cream would elevate the apple cubes. The apple cubes, sometimes I wish that there would be a perfect balance between every strudel made but because this is handmade, it's so difficult to get the consistency correct. Equal amount of cream, custard and Apple fillings but then I don't really want robots or machinery making souless food.
In my opinion, Fruity Bakery (Apple Talk) just edges it for me. They have the right consistency and crispy shell that did not deceive. I wouldn't mind either if it came to a choice but if I was picky (and I am), then I would choose the former but like the Matrix taught me, 'choice is an illusion".
Strudel Bakery House is located at Taman Bayu Perdana, Klang. Whatsapp their number to order, so that you don't travel all the way there and leave empty handed. Be patient with their replies and remember it's about the food not their attitude.

Read morePersonally prefer apple strudel than strawberry strudel, though the strawberry cream tasted more refreshing refrigerated. Strudel generally crust slightly flaky, the cream goes so well together. My fam and I, all agree the passion fruit cream horn is the best. Though this is our personal opinion. I love mango cream horn as well, there are mango bits! Crust slightly flaky alike strudel. Only ordered twice, and second time I didn't have time for nicer photographs. Read morequite far off the beaten path and only available for take aways, Strudel bakery is a small outlet. Vincent, the ever smiling owner, was on hand to meet the early customers. I wasn't keen on strawberry strudel as ALL local varieties are sour, but Vincents insistence made me take a box too. the pastry is just excellent. Notice that my cut on the pastry is clean with absolutely no crumbs!! very well-baked. Good amount of apples and cream but perhaps too much custard (I hope Vincent reads this). it is not too sweet so that's good for most people but I would have liked a little more sugar. unfortunately for me the strawberry variety was not up to expectations. as I feared the local fruit was not good enough for a strudel. while that's not exactly the bakers fault, he should select a fruit that is naturally sweet but it is still good to experiment. still, the apple strudel is definitely...
