Been craving for my favourite bean paste steamed fish head for a quite some time now and finally made a move to satisfy that long crave.
For anyone who had stayed in Klang Valley for more than a year, this place needs no further introduction.
As for people who've yet to try this place, this honest review is for you.
Recommended dishes (based on my personal preferences): Bean paste steamed fish head. Plain steamed fish head. Free range steamed chicken. Tofu with scallion oil. You can also order the fish stomach and fish maw with option 1 & 2. A must try too.
These 4 are must try if you have a crowd of two people or more. If there's only two of you, 1, 3 & 4 is sufficient, or you might want to opt for the plain steamed fish instead. It's your choice.
But please do take note that if the fish they use for the steamed fish head is from the Asian Big Head Carp fish and they are very boney. So if you have small children or people who cannot handle lots of fish bones, you might want to limit them to just the fish belly part where there are less bones or just stick with other dishes. And being a fresh water fish, a slight muddy smell from the fish meat is inevitable. So if you're a beginner, you might want to try the one using bean paste as the sauce is very tasty and it will mask most of the muddy smell. But for people who are already accustomed to the muddy smell, the plain steamed fish head is just as good.
Lunch crowd peaks between noon to 1:30pm. Anything before or after is manageable.
Parking is free and not overly crowded.
As I was having only one dish, the bean paste steamed fish head plus one white rice, the bills comes to RM37 at the time of review. And please take note that bigger portion will cost more.
Drinks are sold separately by a different operator sharing the same venue and most of the drinks are within the range of your typical Malaysian coffee shop.
So how addictive is this dish if you ask me? I had it on Wednesday and I want to go back again at the time of this review.
Hope this review is helpful to those who wants to try Chong Yen...

The speciality here is Steamed Fish Belly with Sauce. There are not many restaurants selling fish belly. The fish belly is steamed, and covered with spicy bean paste sauce. The belly is crispy and the sauce is strong.
Another popular dish is Steamed Pine Fish Head. Pine fish have a relatively large fish head, it is slender, creamy flesh, smooth and tender taste. This type of fish is normally having some muddy smell. It is normally steam with ginger, peppers and green onions and topped with soy sauce and rice wine. The taste is fresh and salty.
Fried Meat and Steam Chicken are also popular among the patron. They also serve a variety of dishes & vegetables. Overall the taste is good & the price is not expensive. The only drawback is the environment is quite warm.
The shop is packed with crowd from surrounding area during lunch time but the waiting time is acceptable. You might want to come earlier to...
Read moreIt’s a scam! Takeaway costs 50 % more for the same food. Is that for your packaging?
We had lunch here and ordered the same food for takeaway after. For dine in, the fish head was expensive (RM32) with small portion. The rest reasonable.
For take away, it’s a scam. We ordered the same food we had here. We told the guy and he said it can be arranged (RM 8 vege can be split into 2 portions). When we paid the bill, price for takeaway was 50% more and didn’t give a breakdown. We asked for a receipt with the breakdown, the aunty told us the vege was RM24 (RM12 each pack) as opposed to what the guy told us RM8 to be split into 2 packs. Even if RM8 can’t be spilt, he should have told us and charge us RM8 for individual pack (not RM12). We just can’t brain how they tried to scam people with takeaway food and just put a lump sum there. Likewise for the meat, dine in RM8,...
