I was craving banana leaf meals and decided to try Restaurant Istilah at Jalan Ipoh. To my surprise, the place was quiet with no customers when we walked in, but the food truly exceeded expectations. We ordered 2 banana leaf meal sets, and it was a complete spread — just how a proper banana leaf meal should be. The set came with 3 types of vegetables, pickles, papadoms, and even a dessert for a sweet ending. What impressed me most was the variety of gravies: fish curry, chicken curry, dhall curry, and even egg curry — which is a rare find and my first time seeing it offered. All the curries were flavorful, and the vegetables were well-prepared, especially the fried ladies’ finger which was outstanding. We also ordered side dishes like chicken varuval, tofu sambal, and onion omelette — each one was delicious and very tempting. Price-wise, it was very reasonable. The total bill came to around RM30 for everything, which I think is great value for the quality of food. Honestly, this feels like an underrated restaurant. The food here is top-notch and definitely worth a return visit for lunch. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of authentic banana leaf meals!

Many choices of everyday food. Reasonable price. I like the open-air feel & atmosphere. Just to simply relax & enjoy the food...

I think, this is the only mamak that opens 24hrs within this area ( Selayang, Batu Caves, Jalan Ipoh, Segambut, Sentul, Jalan Duta, Dataran Merdeka) I would like to recommend this place as they are fully operating as always. The food is okay, fast service and aney there are also very friendly but it doesn't mean that you can think of the possibility of being their BFF someday so you will get to go eat there for free. But even if it happens that you and anney become BFFs later, that is not...

Appreciating this waiter named Deva. He values the regular customers.. so what happened today, i went and order nasi goreng ayam. I will always eat nasi goreng with chicken curry but I'll help myself to take the curry as I felt requesting curry for a nasi goreng is too demanding.. noticing this, Deva served my order today with curry even without requesting n I just amazed with his service... Woww...He is not just working for money.. he is making the customers happy.. Kudos...
