This restaurant’s lady manager has no communication nor understanding skills whatsoever. I rang them up to ask if I could make a reservation for 2 of us, and the manager said they only accept walk ins.
Ok, so we drove 30 minutes to this restaurant, arrived at 630pm only to be told that it’s fully booked. Ok nvm we thought, we will try again the next day. We decided to go as soon as the restaurant opened in the evening. Again, before going i rang them up just to be sure if we could get a table as soon as they opened. The same manager tells me it’s “subject to availability”.
So again we set off on a 30 minute ride there, only to be asked if we have reservations!! Didn’t they tell us the day before that they only accept walk ins?? I even told the manager I rang her as I was leaving to drive over and she then barks that she told me “quota full”! Uh, no you didn’t tell me that over the phone. You told me that it’s “subject to availability“, your standard answer.
The manager could’ve at least been honest and apologise and say that quota is full, we would’ve gone somewhere else and spared us the drive! These sorts of people will cause their business to go way down if they’re not careful abt how they treat their customers. Not even an apology!
Look at the stark contrast to another restaurant, i rang Kuah Town Seafood restaurant and the guy there was kind and gracious, apologised and said that they’re fully booked that evening.
What’s so difficult in being honest, Kapal Layar? Is it because it’s just the 2 of us that you decided to turn us away? Because it didn’t look like your tables were fully booked either. We did all we can to ensure we could get a table before coming. Never coming back to patronise them ever again with this sorts of attitude. Wise up before...
Read moreHad the opportunity to eat at Kapal Layer Langkawi during my recent trip. It was a great place to have an enjoyable seafood dinner.
Price: Cost a little more than your usual roadside fare but you get quality seafood at a reasonable price.
Location: A little off the usual location. Needs transportation to get there but it's definitely worth the effort to get there. Chill place by the seaside with wonderful Instagrammable places to take pics.
Food: We had everything on the recommended list.
Butter Lobster was wonderful. If you love creamy buttery sauce, this dish would be perfect for you. We had a 2+kg lobster, ample for our party of 6.
White Pepper Crab: The white pepper sauce was lovely though the local crab is not comparable to your Sri Lankan crab so need to adjust your expectations there.
Deep Fried Sea Bass: Can't go wrong with a well fried sea bass with nice soy sauce. So crispy even the bones were yummy!
Kam Heong La La: Stir fried Kam Heong was really tasty. If more la la opened, this dish would have been the highlight for the dinner.
Salted Egg Sotong: Again, can't go wrong with salted egg sauce right? Plus deep fried cuttlefish...crunchy, salty goodness...Goodness me!!
Some regular stuff I wouldn't elaborate...including the heart shaped rice...
Overall: The food is definitely good enough for you to make the trip there. The reasonable price and dining experience give you the added plus to try this place. Point to note (1): Make reservation Point to note (2): Don't arrive staving...food doesn't come instantaneously. But it's worth the wait
Must try: the swing at the edge of the jetty!! Haha more than any dish...
Read moreOverrated restaurant. First day went there at night for dinner but was told fully booked. Then, we WhatsApp the owner to book for the next day dinner by 630pm and basically we cancelled lots of plan for that day just to try their dishes as the reviews were good on Google. Well, we stepped inside and immediately one of the malay guy came to us and I told him we have booked for 4 ppls. However, the guy said they didn't have the booking under my name. We were devastated as we were happily came all the way and then was told no booking. However, when I questioned he said he didn't know but they have only one last table near to the entrance. Anyway, the guy was rude and no apologetic! Bad service! Reluctantly, we sat down as we were exhausted and hungry. We ordered lobster, fish, veggies and salty squids (signature dish). Total price is RM400+++ but the service isn't in par with the price. We also didn't agree with other reviewers as the food was just OK and definitely can't impress our taste buds. Not far from this restaurant, there is a nice restaurant that DOES NOT require booking but offer excellent foods and service! I will surely recommend this "The Roof Restaurant"! The only good point for kapal layar restaurant is the view that facing the sea and there was a hanging swing on the bridge that is next to the sea. Nice sunset you can...
