Bert's Garden — Restaurant in Malacca

I feel obligated to provide feedback after experiencing this evening when I went there for dinner with my family of 4 - 2 adult and 2 teens. Firstly, I called at 6.30pm to check if reservation could be made but was told no reservation was necessary. Nevertheless I still tried to request for a good table with a good view. But still the person insist no reservation and on a first come basis. Fine. When I reached at 7, found out quite a few tables had reservations and queried them. Was told those tables are friends of the Boss. Ok fine, I am no VIP. I get it. Moving along, found a table and started to order. By then it was 7.15pm. I ordered 6 dishes and some drinks. Food did not arrive for over 45 minutes. Started to complain about it and a few minutes later the first dish of grilled stingray came and Nasi Lemak. That’s it, no other dishes came even after we finished the food on our table. I requested to cancel the order by 8.30pm and out came one more vege dish. In the end, I had to cancel 3 dishes. And I noticed the table next to us had to also cancelled some dishes that they did not get after several reminders. We went away with half empty stomach and emptied wallet. The food was pathetic for the amount they are charging. Cut throat prices and with such poor food quality. A stingray of small size, 3 nasi lemak, Kai Lan vege and canned drinks/Chinese tea costs RM118!! The point I am trying to make here is that I had several encounters with several of the staff that we could have been warned dishes will take more than an hour to be served. The audacity of the establishment in charging extreme prices with very poor service.

Our group of 11, recently had the pleasure of visiting a charming restaurant near seaside in Malacca, and I must say it was an absolute delight! From the moment we stepped in, we was captivated by the stunning view of the seaview. A good friend of mine, Benny who lives in Melaka, proposed to bring me out while I was in town. After my dinner at Peranakan Mansion, he came to pick me up from my place of stay.

Instead of going into town, he took me through the coastal road heading towards Tanjung Kling where Bert's Garden is located. He told me that this restaurant was a retreat and getaway place for him, and that he knew the boss personally.

It was quite dark at that time so I could not have a better look at the whole area. Since I had dinner earlier, I told him not to order too much - just enough to munch and enjoy our wines.

◾stir fried anchovies with onion & cili padi - lovely snack minus the carbs. ◾otak-otak - I just could not get enough of this dish provided it was tasty. ◾Geragau - a seasonal and limited item essentially krill fritters which was my first time eating this. The chilly sauce was perfect with this deep fried snack. ◾Since this restaurant was Benny's canteen, we had 2 bottles of wine that night - one that I brought all the way from KL, and another he opened on the spot.
